Black history!!!!

February is recognized as Black History Month, a time to celebrate the rich history and contributions of African Americans. Among the many stories, the adventure of five Black women—Marylou Jackson, Velva Jackson, Ethyl Miller, Leolya Nelson, and Constance White—stands out. In 1928, these courageous women embarked on an extraordinary journey, cycling over 250 miles from New York to Washington, DC, during Easter weekend. This achievement was not just a remarkable feat of endurance; it was a statement of resilience and empowerment for Black women at a time when such endeavors were rare. Their journey began in Manhattan, where they cycled 100 miles to Philadelphia, spending the night at the YWCA. The following day, they biked to Wilmington, DE, before finally arriving in the capital. While in DC, they enjoyed sightseeing around the National Mall and Howard University, capturing their experiences with a memorable photograph taken by Addison Scurlock, a prominent photographer known for documenting African American life. The legacy of these women extends beyond their biking achievements; it symbolizes the strength and determination of Black individuals throughout history. By sharing their story during Black History Month, we honor their contributions and inspire future generations to recognize and celebrate the impact of African Americans in all fields. This dedication to acknowledging Black history not only elevates their stories but serves as a vital reminder of the ongoing struggles for equality and representation.
