Women’s History Month 2026….Day 28
Ketanji Brown Jackson is an American lawyer and jurist serving as an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States since 2022. Nominated by Joe Biden, she became the first Black woman, first former federal public defender, and sixth woman on the Court.
Born in Washington, D.C. and raised in Miami, she studied at Harvard University, served on the Harvard Law Review, and clerked for Justice Stephen Breyer, whose seat she later filled.
Her career includes roles as vice chair of the U.S. Sentencing Commission (2010–2014), a federal district judge appointed by Barack Obama, and a judge on the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals (appointed in 2021). She is considered part of the Court’s liberal wing alongside Elena Kagan and Sonia Sotomayor.
After a closely divided Senate process, she was confirmed in April 2022 and officially sworn in on June 30, 2022. #womenshistorymonth2026
