Hey chai lovers! I’m so glad you’re enjoying this Vanilla-Cardamom Chai recipe as much as I do. It truly is a comforting embrace in a mug! I've been getting a few questions about making the perfect brew, so I wanted to share some extra tips and insights to help you make this chai even more delectably yours, ensuring a delightful experience every time. First off, let's talk about caffeine. A common question I hear is, "does cardamom tea have caffeine?" Since my recipe uses loose-leaf black tea as its base, yes, this Vanilla-Cardamom Chai definitely contains caffeine! Black tea is known for its natural caffeine content, which gives you that gentle, warming boost. If you're sensitive to caffeine or prefer a relaxing evening drink, don't worry! You can easily swap the black tea for a decaffeinated black tea blend or even a rooibos tea for a completely caffeine-free version. The beautiful vanilla and spice flavors, especially the ginger and cardamom, will still shine through beautifully. Next, what if you're out of cardamom pods or wondering about substitutes? The recipe calls for 10 cardamom pods, which provide a wonderfully fresh and pungent aroma. If you can't get your hands on pods, you can use ground cardamom, but be mindful of the amount. Ground cardamom is much more potent, so I'd recommend starting with 1/2 to 3/4 teaspoon of ground cardamom for this recipe, tasting, and adjusting from there. Another option, though it won't be exactly the same, is to lean into the other warm spices you already have on hand. A little extra clove or a pinch of cinnamon can complement the existing flavors nicely if cardamom is scarce. Remember, the goal is a warm, aromatic blend, so feel free to experiment a bit! Many of you also asked about "how to make chai for one person." Good news – my recipe is already perfectly portioned for a generous single serving or two smaller cups! It uses 1 cup of water and 1 cup of oat milk. This makes it super convenient to make for just yourself when you need that personal moment of calm. If you want to scale it up for more people, simply double or triple all the ingredients. Just remember to keep an eye on the pot when the milk is added, as it can boil over quickly! For consistency, I recommend keeping the spice-to-liquid ratio the same. Finally, remember that the beauty of homemade chai is its customizability. Feel free to adjust the amount of sugar to your liking – some prefer it sweeter, others less so. You can also play with the spice levels. If you love a stronger ginger kick, add a bigger knob! If you're crazy about vanilla, a little extra paste won't hurt. This chai is all about creating that perfect moment of wellness for you. So go ahead, personalize it, and savor every sip. Cheers to your next batch of homemade chai!
