Protein balls

... Read moreI absolutely love making my own protein balls at home – it's a game-changer for healthy snacking! There’s nothing quite like knowing exactly what goes into your fuel, and honestly, they taste so much better than anything store-bought. My go-to recipe usually involves a mix of rolled oats, creamy nut butter, a touch of honey for sweetness, and of course, a handful of delicious chocolate chips for that perfect treat-like vibe. Sometimes I'll even add a scoop of vanilla protein powder for an extra boost, or a hint of vanilla extract to elevate the flavor. It makes a big batch that lasts me through the week, saving both time and money! Speaking of simple ingredients, I recently stumbled upon an amazing way to switch up my protein ball routine: using sattu powder! If you haven't heard of it, Sattu is a traditional Indian flour, typically made from roasted gram (chickpea) and barley, and it's an incredible source of protein and fiber. It’s often called a 'poor man's protein' but it’s truly a superfood, offering sustained energy and a cooling effect on the body, which is fantastic after a workout or on a hot day. I decided to experiment with it for my protein balls, and trust me, it’s a revelation! Here’s a simple Sattu powder recipe if you want to try it out: Ingredients: 1 cup Sattu powder 1/2 cup jaggery powder (or honey/maple syrup to taste) 1/4 cup melted ghee or your favorite nut butter (like almond or peanut butter) 1-2 tablespoons milk or water (to bind, if needed) 1/2 teaspoon cardamom powder (optional, but highly recommended for aroma) A handful of chopped nuts or seeds (like almonds, cashews, or pumpkin seeds) for added crunch. Instructions: In a large bowl, combine the sattu powder, jaggery powder, and cardamom powder (if using). Mix well. Add the melted ghee or nut butter to the dry ingredients. Start mixing with a spoon, then use your hands to incorporate everything until it resembles a crumbly dough. If the mixture feels too dry and isn't coming together, add milk or water, one tablespoon at a time, until you can form a ball. Stir in the chopped nuts or seeds. Take small portions of the mixture and roll them tightly between your palms to form smooth, bite-sized balls. Store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week. They’re perfect for a quick breakfast, an afternoon pick-me-up, or even a healthy dessert. You can even add a bit of cocoa powder to the mix for a chocolatey Sattu protein ball! It’s such an easy and versatile way to boost your protein intake with minimal effort.
