Learning Begins at Home!
Building the Foundation at Home 🏠📚
Every child learns differently, and that truth has been heavy on my heart lately as we navigate the challenges of public school. My son’s recent report card raised some red flags, especially in reading comprehension. We suspect some form of neurodivergence, but with testing still months away (thank you, waitlists 😅), we’ve decided to take matters into our own hands.
I’ve had this Grade 2 Reading Comprehension Workbook for a few weeks now, and we’re officially diving in—just a few pages after school each day to help strengthen the areas where he struggles most. Learning doesn’t just happen at school; it starts at home. And sometimes, it takes a parent’s intentional guidance to bridge those gaps.
At the same time, fostering a love of reading is just as important as building skills. That’s why I let my son choose something he loves—like this Dragon Ball Z book he picked out at the book fair. (It’s the little things that spark excitement!) Combining structured learning with their personal interests helps children stay motivated and engaged.
Every family has unique needs, and I’m not here to pit public school against homeschooling. Both paths have their place, which is why I’m working to create a micro school that supports both. But one thing I do know: we can’t count on the school system alone to raise and teach our kids. We, as parents, have to step in and partner in the process.
For now, our goal is simple: a little progress each day, a growing love for learning, and the reminder that, no matter where they are academically, our children deserve patience, support, and a chance to thrive.

I finally bit the bullet and am homeschooling my non-speaking daughter. She is smart and kept coming home with baby crap(she’s 14 and just finished 8th grade). I wish I would have started sooner.
