Mine A.K. Rose Book Review

Let me start off with ABSOLUTELY NOT worth the hype!

The main female character Ryth is so annoying! She is whiny! To be honest, so is her mother. The brothers are the main reason that I pushed through to read and finish the book. I believe it is mafia, but I am unsure of this but it gives Mafia vibes. The storyline is good and keeps you hooked if you can get past all of the annoying aspects of Ryth. This is a series however, I am at a battle with myself on if I want to read the whole series or not it is a series of eight books. I have read the reviews on the other books of the series and it seems like they are not worth the read. It does end in a cliffhanger, but to be honest, it is not worth it to me.

The brothers are completely possessive, except, for you only know the age of one, and that is the youngest. it seems like the youngest brother is the one that is the smartest, but is also the most possessive.

To be completely honest, I would not recommend reading this book because because it feels like a waste of time. I got 58% through the book. And skimmed a few chapters debating with myself if I wanted to finish it or not, I only finished it because I wanted to know what happens and to be honest it was not worth it!!!

This is for sure a BookTok Fail!

... Read moreOkay, fellow bookworms, let's talk more about 'Mine' by A.K. Rose. I know my initial review was pretty blunt, but I feel like we need to unpack why this one just didn't hit the mark for me, especially when it's part of the 'Blood Ties Series' and has such a striking cover with those black snakes and white flowers! For anyone considering picking up this book, let's dive deeper into what you can expect. First off, Ryth. Oh, Ryth. I mentioned she was whiny, and I stand by that. From my perspective, her character arc felt less like growth and more like a constant cycle of indecision and complaint. It made it really hard to root for her, even in the most intense situations. You know how sometimes you connect with a character even if they make questionable choices? That wasn't my experience here. It's a shame because the premise of a dark romance with why choose elements and step-brothers usually hooks me right in! The reverse harem aspect, often a favorite trope, felt underdeveloped or, dare I say, slightly forced, given Ryth's personality. Now, the brothers – they were the saving grace. Even with limited age details on most of them, their possessiveness was palpable and, honestly, the only reason I kept turning pages. They had that mysterious, dangerous aura that you expect from a mafia adjacent story. If you're into the 'family is everything' tagline that the cover boasts, you might find their dynamic intriguing. But for me, it was challenging to reconcile their intensity with Ryth's often frustrating reactions. Their individual personalities could have been explored more, but what we got was enough to keep me curious. And about that 'spicy' level? The chapters I listed (4, 5, 10, 11, 20, 21, 25, 26, 30, 35, 38, 39, 41) definitely deliver on the heat. If you're purely looking for those moments, you'll find them. However, for me, the spice felt a bit disconnected from the overall emotional build-up, almost like standalone scenes rather than integral parts of the character development or plot progression. It has its moments, but I was hoping for more emotional depth woven into the steam, something that truly elevates a dark romance from just a book with explicit scenes. The plot itself had potential. The 'Blood Ties Series' implies a sprawling, interconnected story, and there were glimmers of a compelling narrative. The cliffhanger ending certainly leaves you wanting to know what happens next. But after reading reviews for the subsequent books, I'm still on the fence about continuing. Eight books is a big commitment, especially when the first one left me feeling so lukewarm. If you've read the entire series, I'd genuinely love to hear if it gets better or if Ryth finds her footing! Ultimately, for those searching for a truly captivating dark romance with why choose and reverse harem elements, I'd say proceed with caution. While the brothers and the spicy scenes have their appeal, the main character and overall execution might not be for everyone. It was a definite 'BookTok Fail' for my personal taste, but I'm always curious to hear other opinions!
