So many of you asked about my online study routine, especially with those super long classes, so I wanted to share more depth on how I actually make "study with me online" sessions work for me. It's not always easy to stay motivated and focused when your classroom is essentially your living room, but I've picked up a few tricks along the way. First off, my setup is key. You might have seen in my photos that I use my TV as a second screen for my online classes. This has been a game-changer! Having one screen for my main task, like watching lectures or working on an assignment, and the other for notes, research, or even a study timer, dramatically boosts my efficiency. It feels less cluttered than constantly switching tabs and helps me keep all my resources visible, making it easier to reference materials for things like "Assessing Student Learning" prompts. Then there's the Focuspomo app. This isn't just any timer; it's my secret weapon against distraction. It's based on the Pomodoro Technique, which breaks down work into focused intervals, traditionally 25 minutes, separated by short breaks. For my intense online classes, I usually set my Focuspomo for 45-minute study blocks, followed by a 10-minute break. This rhythm helps me dive deep into a subject without feeling overwhelmed, knowing a short mental reset is coming. The app’s "CONGRATULATIONS!!! Good Job!" messages after each completed session are surprisingly motivating! It reinforces that I'm making progress, even if it's just getting through another section of my notes. Speaking of distractions, they're the biggest enemy of online students. Beyond the Focuspomo app, I've learned to create a dedicated study zone. Even if it's just a corner of my room, keeping it tidy and free from non-study items helps signal to my brain that it's time to focus. I also turn off non-essential notifications on my phone and computer. It’s amazing how much more productive I can be when I'm not tempted by every ping. Long study sessions are unavoidable sometimes, and while a little Red Bull can provide a quick boost, it's not a sustainable strategy on its own. To really power through from a 3:15 start time to a 4:30 finish time and then again to 7:15 finally done, I prioritize short, active breaks. Instead of just scrolling on my phone, I'll stand up, stretch, grab a healthy snack, or even step outside for a minute. These micro-breaks refresh my mind far more effectively. I also make sure I'm well-hydrated throughout the day. Lastly, setting clear goals for each study block is crucial. Before I start a session, I quickly jot down what I want to achieve, whether it's completing a specific reading, outlining a paper, or reviewing a chapter. This gives me a target and a sense of accomplishment when I hit it, making the entire "study with me online" experience feel more structured and less like an endless grind.
