Also, ensure the crib mattress is lowered once your baby can sit up or pull themselves to a standing position; it happens faster than you think! Bathing can be a wonderful bonding experience, but safety is paramount. The golden rule is truly to never leave your baby unattended, not even for a second. That means no answering the door, no grabbing a towel from the next room. Everything you need should be within arm's reach before the bath even starts. Testing the water temperature on your wrist or elbow is key – it should feel comfortably warm, not hot. I always fill the tub with just enough water to cover their legs, no more than 2 inches, to keep them safe while still allowing them to splash and enjoy. When it comes to Toys, it’s easy to get carried away, but simple and safe is always best for babies. Beyond avoiding strings longer than 12 inches, always think about choking hazards. If a toy part can fit through a toilet paper roll, it's too small for a baby under three. Regularly inspect toys for any loose parts, cracks, or peeling paint. A heavy toy could cause harm if it falls, so opt for lightweight, soft, and durable options. Preventing falls is another critical area. It’s hard to believe how quickly babies can roll or scoot! Never, ever leave your baby alone on elevated surfaces like beds, sofas, or changing tables. Even if you think you're only stepping away for a second, it's too risky. When using high chairs, ensure the safety harness is always buckled. And for those grocery runs, always use the safety belt on the shopping cart, keeping a hand on your baby at all times. Babyproofing your home goes beyond just preventing falls; think about outlet covers, cabinet locks, and securing furniture to the walls as your little one becomes more mobile. Finally, In the Car safety is non-negotiable. Proper car seat installation is vital. Many fire departments or hospitals offer free car seat checks to ensure it's installed correctly and your baby is harnessed snugly. Remember, rear-facing until at least age two, or even longer if your car seat allows and your child hasn't outgrown the height/weight limits. Bulky clothing can interfere with the harness, so dress your baby in thin layers and use blankets over the strapped-in harness if it's cold. And, of course, never leave your baby alone in a car, even for a moment.
