Your period survival guide: cramp-free zone
Hello girlies! 🍋
When I’m on my period, I try to avoid certain foods to make things a bit easier on my body.
First up, salty foods! I know how good chips or fries are… but too much salt can make bloating worse. It’s a no from me during that time.
I stay away from too much caffeine. I love my coffee, but I’ve noticed that it can make cramps feel worse, so I try to switch to herbal teas instead.
Also, sugary treats, as much as I crave them, can lead to energy crashes, which is the last thing I need when I’m already feeling tired.
Instead of giving in to cravings, I’ve found that making healthier food choices really helps me feel better during the terrible days. 😵💫

Okay girlies, so we've talked about what to avoid, but let's dive deeper into why these changes make such a difference and what else you can embrace to feel your best during your period! Battling Water Retention & Bloating from Salty Foods I totally get the struggle with bloating, especially after indulging in salty snacks. High sodium intake makes your body hold onto extra water, leading to that uncomfortable puffy feeling. Think about those processed snacks, canned soups, or even fast food like a burger from In-N-Out – they can pack a serious sodium punch! My trick? I started checking food labels for sodium content and cooking more at home. When you prepare your own meals, you have full control over the salt. Swapping out processed foods for fresh fruits, veggies, and lean proteins can dramatically reduce water retention. Staying super hydrated with plain water also helps flush out excess sodium, which can feel counterintuitive but it really works! Magnesium: Your Cramp-Fighting Superstar Beyond avoiding caffeine, I discovered that magnesium is a total game-changer for easing those awful period cramps. Magnesium plays a crucial role in muscle relaxation, and many of us are actually deficient! When I started incorporating more magnesium-rich foods, I noticed a significant reduction in my cramping. My go-to's include dark leafy greens like spinach, avocados, nuts (especially almonds and cashews), seeds (pumpkin and chia seeds are amazing!), and dark chocolate (yes, you read that right – in moderation, of course!). Sometimes, I even use a magnesium supplement, but always chat with a doctor first! The Power of Bananas for Period Pain Have you ever heard that bananas are good for muscle cramps? Well, it's true for period cramps too! Bananas are packed with potassium, an electrolyte that helps maintain fluid balance and muscle function. When your potassium levels are optimal, it can help prevent muscle contractions and reduce period pain. I always try to keep a few ripe bananas on hand during my cycle – they're a quick, easy, and natural way to get some relief. Plus, they give you a nice energy boost without the sugar crash! **Beyond the 'No-No' List: What To Eat! While cutting out certain foods is helpful, focusing on nourishing your body is equally important. Think about incorporating more anti-inflammatory foods. Fatty fish like salmon, flaxseeds, and walnuts are rich in omega-3s, which can help reduce inflammation and pain. Complex carbs like whole grains, oats, and sweet potatoes provide sustained energy, preventing those dreaded sugar crashes. And don't forget good old water! Staying hydrated is key for everything from bloating to mood. A Quick Note on Alcohol and Spicy Foods** Just like the main article mentioned, I've personally found that alcohol and very spicy foods can make things worse. Alcohol can dehydrate you, making bloating more intense and messing with your sleep, which is the last thing you need. And for some, spicy foods can irritate the digestive system, potentially leading to more cramps or discomfort. Everyone's body is different, but listening to yours and seeing how these impact you can be really insightful. By making these thoughtful additions to my diet and understanding the 'whys,' my period wellness journey has become so much more manageable. It really is about empowering yourself with knowledge and making choices that support your body!

oh then what am I supposed to eat that all we have in my house 😭
