Let’s take a jet ski to Catalina island
Headed to Catalina Island on a jetski?
✅ You 1000% need gloves. Any kind of grippy ones will do. Watch the video if you don’t think you need gloves.
✅Wear EXTRA sunscreen. We got sun poisoning from not reapplying and having extra rays bounce from the water.
✅Get a dry bag that’s a backpack because it makes getting off easier. You taken from the harbor to the shore on a jet ski.
❌ Don’t take a ton of stuff. Everything needs to fit in a dry bag. We wore our swimsuits the whole time because you’re only on the island for a few hours.
❌Don’t forget water!!
So, you're planning a jet ski adventure to Catalina Island, and wondering about the best outfit and gear? Believe me, I learned a few things the hard way! Beyond just a swimsuit, your carefully chosen gear can genuinely make or break the entire trip. First off, let's talk about those gloves. The original post is absolutely right – you NEED them. My hands were practically bloody by the end of the day because I underestimated how much grip and friction there would be against the handlebars, especially with the constant vibration and ocean spray. Invest in good quality, grippy water gloves, or even cycling gloves in a pinch. They protect against blisters, enhance your grip, and give you better control, which is crucial if the water gets choppy. Don't be like me, frantically searching for a place that sells gloves on the island, wishing I’d packed them from the start! Next up: sun protection. 'Extra sunscreen' is an understatement. The sun reflecting off the water is incredibly intense, amplifying UV exposure. I ended up with sun poisoning, which was definitely not a fun souvenir – it turned what should have been a relaxing return into a miserable experience. Beyond reapplying a high-SPF, broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen every few hours, consider wearing a long-sleeved rash guard. It’s a game-changer for protecting your skin and significantly reducing the need for constant reapplication. A wide-brimmed hat with a chin strap (so it doesn't fly off!) and polarized sunglasses are also non-negotiable. They protect your eyes from glare and your scalp from burns. For your main 'outfit,' quick-drying shorts or board shorts over your swimsuit are ideal. You’ll be consistently wet, so comfort is absolutely key. Avoid anything heavy or cotton-based that will stay soaked and chafe. For footwear, water shoes or neoprene booties are fantastic for getting on and off the jet ski, protecting your feet from any sharp objects, and walking around the island comfortably. Flip-flops are fine once you're on shore, but water shoes offer much better protection, grip, and stability during the ride itself. Finally, for your dry bag backpack, make sure you pack smart and efficiently. Besides the absolute essentials like your phone (sealed in a waterproof pouch!), wallet, and car keys, don't forget *multiple extra water bottles*. Hydration on the open water is more crucial than you might think! A small, compact first-aid kit with band-aids for any small nicks or scrapes (like those *bloody hands*!), some pain relievers, and lip balm with SPF, will also come in handy. Trust me, being thoroughly prepared with the right outfit and gear makes the 'once in a lifetime experience' much more enjoyable and less about facing the 'regret life choices' moments that can quickly overshadow the fun!

Catalina Island on a jet ski? Sounds amazing! But definitely bring the gloves! 🧤
