Disturbing Events in World History

I normally don’t post things like this on my channel, but I thought it would be important for me to share this with others who don’t know about these events that have occurred

... Read moreThroughout my exploration of these deeply unsettling events in world history, I have found that understanding the human impact behind the facts makes the history resonate more personally. For example, the Willowbrook Hepatitis experiments were not just about clinical research gone wrong—they were about real children subjected to unimaginable suffering in the name of science. This stark reality forced many to rethink the ethics of medical experimentation. Similarly, learning about the Nanjing Massacre and the sheer scale of the atrocities committed—300,000 civilians brutally killed—reminds us of the devastating consequences of war and unchecked militarism. What struck me most was how survivors were further subjected to inhumane treatment, including forced prostitution and cruel experimentation. The My Lai Massacre also stands out as a sobering example of wartime atrocity involving American soldiers, with horrific acts of violence and an attempted cover-up. It made me reflect on the importance of accountability and transparency in governmental and military actions. The Aversion Project in South Africa highlights the lengths some institutions have gone to enforce conformity, using cruel and pseudoscientific methods like castration and shock therapy to "cure" homosexuality. The courage of those who resisted despite threats of imprisonment is truly inspiring. Finally, the White March in Belgium showed me the power of collective action and public outcry in seeking justice, especially in cases involving child trafficking, with 300,000 civilians marching to demand police reforms due to negligence. Sharing this knowledge feels important because many of these events remain under-discussed yet have long-lasting impacts on society and human rights conversations. Remembering these disturbing events doesn’t just honor the victims; it also teaches us vigilance and compassion in preventing such tragedies from happening again.

In My Lai I have not heard of 🍇, but they did ☠️ large portion of the civilians, which included not just women and children, but also men to old for military service. Lieutenant William Calley and I think it was two subordinates were charged initially. Charges against the other two were dropped. Calley, who used "just following orders" defense, was convicted, and served little or no time in jail. Calley became a darling of right wing Republicans, on speaking tours, broadcasts and even ran for political office. Further ☠️ing was prevented at My Lai by a helicopter pilot who landed his chopper between his fellow American soldiers and the Vietnamese civilians. The pilot and his men trained weapons on the soldiers ordered those attacking the villagers to cease doing so. He never received any military award or recognition for the civilians lives that he saved.
