Me Rereading My 5-Star Books From 2020 Like… 👀

2025/9/10 Edited to

... Read moreIt's quite common for readers to revisit favorite books from years past and find that their feelings have shifted. This happens because as we grow and change, so do our tastes and perspectives. A book that once captured your heart might now seem lacking in depth, or the themes might not resonate the same way. This evolution in appraisal is a natural part of being an engaged and reflective reader. Many book lovers on platforms like #BookTok share their own experiences with this phenomenon, often leading to humorous and insightful discussions. It's interesting to see how some books maintain their charm while others feel outdated or even problematic in light of new understandings or personal growth. When reconsidering your ratings, it helps to reflect on what aspects of the book appealed to you initially and why your viewpoint has changed. Perhaps societal context, writing style, character development, or plot originality influenced your first impression more than expected. Engaging with the #BookCommunity about these shifts can provide valuable perspectives, helping you discover new titles or genres that better match your evolving interests. Plus, it reminds us that reading is a dynamic journey—what we value now might change, and that's part of the joy of being a lifelong reader. So next time you reread a 5-star book from 2020 or any other year, embrace the fresh insights it brings. Whether your feelings deepen or you choose to revise your rating, it all enriches your personal reading experience and connects you with a vibrant community navigating similar literary journeys.

I once would have rated twilight as a 4-5 star. Now I would be surprised if I rated it higher than a 2. As we read we find more of what we like and we can compare previous reads. It doesn’t mean that you didn’t love it when you did read it but you have a more knowledgeable approach which makes how you view the story different

Highly Anticipated Books from Black Authors - Pt 1
Every year, I do my best to find out what books are coming out and which ones come from writers from underrepresented backgrounds. Many of the “majority” do not read books from these writers, unless there’s much fanfare over the book, so I do my best to read books written by and about people wh
