Reading the Alphabet: My Progress So Far

A little update on my Alphabet Reading Challenge in my book journal this year 📚 saw this on @hkreads11 and I knew I had to tap in!

The goal: read books whose titles start with every letter of the alphabet. This is a challenge I’ve actively been working on and have been updating in my book journal!

So far in 2026:

📖 30 books read

🔤 16 letters claimed

Which means… there are still quite a few tricky letters left to find.

Some letters come naturally, and others suddenly make you realize how rare certain titles actually are.

Now I need help from our reading community 👀

What’s a great book that starts with: Q, X, Z, or any other difficult letters?

I’m determined to fill this grid before the end of the year.

... Read moreTaking on an Alphabet Reading Challenge is both exciting and unexpectedly challenging. From my experience so far in 2026, I've tackled 30 books covering titles starting with 16 letters of the alphabet. Some letters such as A, B, and E came naturally with many popular titles available, but others like Q, X, and Z truly tested my book hunting skills. I found that letters like Q are rare in book titles; for those, I turned to a mix of genres, including mysteries and historical fiction. For example, "Quiet" by Susan Cain offers a deep dive into introversion, which was a refreshing read. When it came to X, it was even tougher, but I discovered "Xenocide" by Orson Scott Card in my sci-fi collection, which was a satisfying find. Letters like Z can sometimes be fun thanks to quirky or adventurous titles. I managed to read "Z: A Novel of Zelda Fitzgerald" by Therese Anne Fowler, which offered a captivating perspective on a famous historical figure. Many readers underestimate how this challenge pushes you out of your usual reading preferences and helps you discover unexpected gems. A great tip I discovered is using book recommendation forums and communities similar to the hashtags #bookchallenge and #readingtracker. Engaging with other readers who participate in the alphabet challenge can offer valuable suggestions, especially for rare letters. Keeping a reading journal proved incredibly helpful in tracking my progress visually and motivating me to fill the gap letters. I use simple spreadsheets and lists, but some use bullet journals or apps tailored for book tracking. If you're considering this challenge, start by listing your favorite genres and see if titles fit the letters you need. Don’t hesitate to explore outside your normal reading comfort zone. It’s rewarding not only in completing the alphabet but also in enriching your reading experience with diverse authors and stories. So, for anyone else on the hunt, I’d recommend checking out genres rich with unique titles — for example, graphic novels can sometimes have standout titles starting with tough letters, or looking into classic literature, where letter coverage might be broader. Overall, the Alphabet Reading Challenge is a fantastic way to make reading fun and goal-oriented. I encourage fellow book lovers to share their recommendations for the remaining tricky letters – what hidden treasures have you discovered starting with Q, X, Z, or others? Let’s fill out the alphabet together!
