Balto The Half Basset
Dropped his favorite shredded ball 🐾💜🐾💜
Oh my goodness, Balto and his shredded ball! If there's one thing my sweet half-basset puppy loves more than anything, it's a good toy he can really get his teeth into – sometimes literally! That shredded ball moment is just a tiny peek into the wonderful, chaotic world of having a basset puppy. They have such unique personalities, don't they? When Balto first came home, he was just a little bundle of floppy ears and wrinkles, and honestly, a lot of mischief! I quickly learned that basset puppies are not just adorable; they're also incredibly curious. Everything has to be sniffed, nudged, and, of course, tasted. His little nose is always to the ground, following invisible trails only he can detect. It’s part of their charm, but it also means puppy-proofing is a full-time job! I remember one time he found a stray sock and thought it was the most exciting treasure he’d ever discovered, parading it around the living room like a king. Playtime for Balto usually involves a lot of low-to-the-ground romping. Unlike some high-energy breeds, bassets are more about deliberate, sniff-filled explorations. But throw a toy – especially a squeaky one – and you’ll see a burst of unexpected puppy energy! He’ll pounce, roll, and yes, sometimes completely annihilate his poor plush toys. It’s not aggression; it's just pure, unadulterated puppy joy. I've found that durable, chew-resistant toys are absolutely essential for a basset puppy like Balto, otherwise, I’d be buying new toys every week! Training Balto has been an adventure. Bassets are known for being a bit stubborn, and my boy is no exception! He's incredibly intelligent, but he also has his own agenda, especially when a good scent distracts him. Consistency and positive reinforcement are key. I've learned to be patient, and when he finally gets a command, it feels like a huge victory. Potty training was a journey, but with a lot of praise and treats, we got there. One of the things I love most about Balto as a puppy is his gentle nature. Despite his mischievous antics, he’s incredibly sweet and loves to cuddle. After a vigorous play session (or a long nap, which he also excels at), he’ll curl up right next to me, sighing contentedly. Those moments make all the chewed-up shoes and "accidents" worth it. If you're thinking about getting a basset puppy, be prepared for endless entertainment, a bit of drool, and a whole lot of love. They might not be the easiest to train sometimes, but their loyalty and comical personalities make them truly amazing companions. Balto has certainly brought so much happiness and laughter into my home, and I wouldn't trade his puppy days for anything!
