Beat the pain

Having endometriosis, PCOS, fibromyalgia, etc. Comes a lot, a lot of pain. I mean, pain

everywhere. Abdomen? Pain. Chest? Pain. Shoulders? Pain. Neck? Pain. Back? Pain. Legs?

Pain. Arms? Pain. Feet? Pain. Hands? Pain. Ankles? Pain. Wrist? Pain. Fingers? Pain. Toes?

Pain. Head? Pain. Eyes? Pain. Everything? Pain. It also comes with health problems that affect

what I do and how I do things.

I’m constantly in pain. It fluctuates; sometimes the pain is higher, other days the pain is

lower, but it never goes away. So basically, everything I do, I do in pain. So I don't really do

much, especially when the pain is on the higher end. Well, lately, the pain hasn't seemed to

move from the higher side. With the pain and my heart rate, I’ve been stuck using my mobility

aids for the past 4 months straight, and I haven't been able to stand or walk for long.

Well, after my physical therapist informed me that I haven't been making any progress, I

knew that I had to overcome the pain. So I've been pushing myself a lot more lately. I’ve been

using my walker instead of my wheelchair. And doing more of the exercises they gave me to do

on my own. I’ve been determined to make progress. So with the help of my walker, I walked a

short trail.

My boyfriend has got to be my number one supporter in all of this. He helps in almost

every way possible. He doesn’t seem to mind having to drag out the wheelchair or my walker

for me when we go places, and he always makes sure I’m okay and have everything I need. My absolute sweetheart will always make sure I’m okay, and I am forever thankful that the Lord

put him in my life.

The trail we picked was only a mile and a half long. It was peaceful being in nature, but

goodness, it was painful. I told myself at the beginning that I wasn't going to sit down, but that

didn’t last very long. I made it to the 1/2 mile marker before I had to give in and sit down for a

bit. Then we went for a bit longer before I needed to sit down again. I had to sit down a few

times, but I walked that mile and a half nonetheless.

I am definitely feeling it. It’s been a few days, and my legs still hurt, and my body is

drained. I am tired in every way possible. It was so worth it, I haven’t done anything like that

since I was 15. I’m glad I pushed myself through and walked the whole thing. Sometimes it’s

worth it to beat the pain and deal with the flare-up later.

... Read moreAfter my recent 1.5-mile trail walk, pushing through constant pain from endometriosis, PCOS, and fibromyalgia, I’ve been reflecting a lot on what truly helps. When you live with chronic pain, it feels like you're constantly searching for those 'must-haves' that can make life even a tiny bit more manageable. My journey isn't just about walking; it's about discovering the tools and mindsets that become essential for everyday life. First, let's talk about physical aids. My red walker, for instance, isn't just a mobility device; it's a symbol of my determination. It allows me to reclaim some independence and truly helps me to "Beat the pain". For anyone dealing with similar struggles, finding the right type of support, whether it's a walker, a cane, or even specialized items like wrist braces (which I often rely on!), can be a game-changer. These aren't signs of weakness; they're tools for empowerment, helping you say, 'you CAN DO IT' even on the toughest days. Another absolute 'must-have' for me is a strong support system. My boyfriend, truly 'My #1 Supporter,' makes all the difference. Having someone who understands, who’s patient, and who celebrates your small victories – like making it '1 1/2 Miles' – is invaluable. Don't underestimate the power of friends, family, or even online communities who get what you're going through. Knowing you're not alone can be incredibly motivating. Then there's the mindset, which doesn't mean ignoring pain, but learning to navigate it. My physical therapist, whose guidance helped me push toward that walk, is a prime example of a professional 'must-have.' Regular physical therapy, gentle exercises tailored to your condition, and learning pacing strategies are crucial. It's about finding what you can do, not dwelling on what you can't, and celebrating every small step. Sometimes it's worth it to push through and deal with the flare-up later, as long as you're listening to your body. Beyond the big things, sometimes the 'must-haves' are simple comfort items. Think warm baths, heating pads for those aching spots, or even just really soft, comfortable clothing that doesn't irritate sensitive areas. After a big effort like my trail walk, my body was drained. Prioritizing rest and gentle recovery—listening to my body instead of pushing past its limits all the time—is a non-negotiable 'must-have' for managing flare-ups and avoiding burnout. It's truly about finding your own rhythms and respecting them. Ultimately, chronic pain 'must-haves' are deeply personal. They evolve as you do. My journey has taught me that these 'must-haves' are a blend of physical tools, emotional support, and mental resilience. They empower you to live your life as fully as possible, one step, one mile, one victory at a time. What are your chronic pain 'must-haves'?
