Beat the pain

Having endometriosis, PCOS, fibromyalgia, etc. Comes a lot, a lot of pain. I mean, pain

everywhere. Abdomen? Pain. Chest? Pain. Shoulders? Pain. Neck? Pain. Back? Pain. Legs?

Pain. Arms? Pain. Feet? Pain. Hands? Pain. Ankles? Pain. Wrist? Pain. Fingers? Pain. Toes?

Pain. Head? Pain. Eyes? Pain. Everything? Pain. It also comes with health problems that affect

what I do and how I do things.

I’m constantly in pain. It fluctuates; sometimes the pain is higher, other days the pain is

lower, but it never goes away. So basically, everything I do, I do in pain. So I don't really do

much, especially when the pain is on the higher end. Well, lately, the pain hasn't seemed to

move from the higher side. With the pain and my heart rate, I’ve been stuck using my mobility

aids for the past 4 months straight, and I haven't been able to stand or walk for long.

Well, after my physical therapist informed me that I haven't been making any progress, I

knew that I had to overcome the pain. So I've been pushing myself a lot more lately. I’ve been

using my walker instead of my wheelchair. And doing more of the exercises they gave me to do

on my own. I’ve been determined to make progress. So with the help of my walker, I walked a

short trail.

My boyfriend has got to be my number one supporter in all of this. He helps in almost

every way possible. He doesn’t seem to mind having to drag out the wheelchair or my walker

for me when we go places, and he always makes sure I’m okay and have everything I need. My absolute sweetheart will always make sure I’m okay, and I am forever thankful that the Lord

put him in my life.

The trail we picked was only a mile and a half long. It was peaceful being in nature, but

goodness, it was painful. I told myself at the beginning that I wasn't going to sit down, but that

didn’t last very long. I made it to the 1/2 mile marker before I had to give in and sit down for a

bit. Then we went for a bit longer before I needed to sit down again. I had to sit down a few

times, but I walked that mile and a half nonetheless.

I am definitely feeling it. It’s been a few days, and my legs still hurt, and my body is

drained. I am tired in every way possible. It was so worth it, I haven’t done anything like that

since I was 15. I’m glad I pushed myself through and walked the whole thing. Sometimes it’s

worth it to beat the pain and deal with the flare-up later.

... Read moreChronic pain disorders such as endometriosis, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), and fibromyalgia affect millions worldwide, causing persistent and widespread pain that can significantly disrupt daily living. These conditions often lead to symptoms including abdominal discomfort, musculoskeletal pain, fatigue, and neurological issues that fluctuate in intensity. Managing such complex pain requires a multifaceted approach combining medical treatment, physical therapy, and lifestyle adjustments. One effective strategy is gradually increasing physical activity despite pain, using mobility aids like walkers or wheelchairs as needed to maintain independence and prevent deconditioning. Physical therapy exercises tailored for individuals with chronic illness help maintain muscle strength and flexibility, potentially reducing pain flares. Emotional and social support also plays a crucial role—having dedicated caregivers or partners who provide assistance and encouragement can improve motivation and mental resilience. Nature walks and gentle outdoor activities may offer psychological benefits through stress reduction and mood enhancement; however, pacing oneself during such activities is essential to avoid exacerbating symptoms. Careful monitoring of heart rate and pain levels can guide appropriate activity limits. Emerging research highlights the importance of integrative pain management techniques including mindfulness, relaxation methods, and cognitive-behavioral therapy, which can empower patients to cope better with chronic pain's psychological burden. In summary, beating the pain associated with chronic illnesses like endometriosis, PCOS, and fibromyalgia involves persistence, adaptive strategies, and continuous support. Each small step toward mobility and activity can enhance quality of life, even if accompanied by temporary discomfort or flare-ups. Understanding and managing your pain can ultimately lead to improved functionality and emotional well-being.
