Lullabies help sooth both infant and caregiver

Did you know that when a caregiver sings to a baby, it can be a lot more than just a bedtime fun activity?

Lullabies can be a form of co-regulation. The predictable rhythm, gentle repetition, and soft vocal tone can all help soothe both the infant and the caregiver. A 2023 study on infant-directed singing shows that musical interaction can support early regulation, bonding, and more stable physiological states in infants.

Also, music interventions are often associated with lower caregiver stress, greater confidence in soothing, and more sensitive emotional attunement. A consistent lullaby routine can even become a predictable signal of safety for the infant and a grounding practice for the caregiver.
