Trust me, it’s not as complicated as it sounds, and it’s become my go-to for a truly deep floor scrub. First things first, preparation is key. Before you even think about mixing your solution, make sure your floors are thoroughly swept or vacuumed. You don't want to be spreading around loose dirt or crumbs – that just creates muddy streaks! I usually do a quick vacuum first to pick up all the surface debris. Now for the magic concoction! For a standard bucket of warm water (I use about 2-3 gallons), I add a generous squirt of Dawn dish soap – usually about 1-2 tablespoons. Don't go overboard, because too much soap can lead to residue, and we definitely don't want sticky floors! Then, I add about half a cup of baking soda. The baking soda is brilliant because it acts as a mild abrasive to tackle grime without scratching, and it’s a fantastic deodorizer. Give it a good stir until the baking soda is mostly dissolved. When it comes to the actual floor scrub, I like to work in sections. Dip your mop or a stiff-bristled brush into the solution, wring it out so it's damp, not soaking wet, and start scrubbing. For really tough spots, I sometimes sprinkle a little extra dry baking soda directly on the area, spray some of the Dawn solution on it, let it sit for a few minutes, and then really get in there with a scrub brush. That makes a huge difference! The combination of Dawn's grease-cutting power and baking soda's gentle abrasion lifts dirt and grime beautifully. The 'Floor scrub' aspect is really important here because it's exactly what you'll be doing to get those deep clean results. Here's the crucial step many people miss: rinsing! If you skip this, you'll end up with dull, streaky floors. After scrubbing a section, I always go back over it with a clean mop dipped in plain, warm water. I usually do two rinses to make sure all the soap residue is gone. This is where the 'After' truly shines because the floors are not just clean, but sparkling. Finally, drying. If you have time, let your floors air dry completely. If you're in a hurry, you can use a clean, dry microfibre mop or towel to speed up the process and ensure no water spots are left behind. A few extra tips from my own experience: Always test a small, inconspicuous area first, especially if you have sensitive or specialty flooring. While this method works wonders on most tile, linoleum, and sealed vinyl, I'd be cautious with unsealed hardwood or laminate, as too much moisture or abrasive baking soda could cause damage. Also, don't feel like you need to do this intense floor scrub every single time you clean. For regular maintenance, a milder solution or just plain water is usually fine. This Dawn and baking soda mix is for those times your floors need a serious refresh! So, if you're looking to achieve that deep clean look, give this method a try. It’s affordable, effective, and you’ll love the results as much as I do!
