Restarting the artist way🎨

Have you ever heard of this book?

If you’re someone who identifies as an artist, or wants to tap into their inner artist, this is probably the best book ever…

I got this book a few months back, and I started reading it along with doing the workbook prompts that are provided throughout the book…

I learned a lot about myself just through the first few exercises.

And I decided to just practice those for a while, I had added stressors in my life and a full-time job so at times I felt like it was hard to keep up with, and I did not commit myself the first time around reading this book.

But in the past week or so, I have picked up the book once again

I decided to slow down and read this book more intentionally

Within the first few pages after the introduction, there is a contract that you sign with yourself…

I don’t know why, but for some reason, this contract internally motivated me and has been motivating me in the past week.

Every morning I wake up and I diligently do what I like to call my rising pages.

I’ve been actively doing artist dates with myself.

Today the pages that I read, actively made me cry.

After my eyes glazed across the words, I had an instant flow of water streaming down my cheeks, unable to stop them.

I feel so heard and validated.

It’s teaching me a lot about preconditioned beliefs from outer sources that have deterred me from following my path for so long.

I’m not even 25% done with the book in a weeks time and I can’t wait to see what transformations I go through during this process.

In the span of time that I have been writing these rising pages, today I got my first really powerful download in the midst of writing down mental junk.

If you have this book, have you read it? How has your experience been? How have you been enjoying what the book likes to call “ morning pages “?

I would love to hear from anyone who has finished the book or is reading or plans on starting the book!

... Read moreI've been on my own creative journey for a while now, and diving into 'The Artist's Way' by Julia Cameron has truly been a pivotal experience, much like what I've read others share. If you're curious about this book or looking to reignite your creative spark, let me tell you a bit more about what it means to me and how it works. At its core, 'The Artist's Way' isn't just a book; it's a 12-week program designed for 'creative recovery.' It helps you unblock your creativity, overcome self-doubt, and rediscover your authentic artistic self. For anyone searching for a summary or its basic principles, it revolves around two main tools: 'Morning Pages' and 'Artist Dates.' 'Morning Pages' are exactly what they sound like: writing three pages of stream-of-consciousness, longhand, every single morning. No editing, no rereading, just getting all the 'mental junk' out. When I first started, I thought, 'What even is this?' But the consistency, as the OCR mentioned, is key. It's incredible how much clarity and insight can emerge from this simple practice. I've found it's not about writing something profound, but about clearing the clutter to make space for creativity to flow. It’s a fantastic way to start the day, setting a positive daily routine and an inspiring environment for creative work, just like the image of a cozy desk setup suggests. Then there are 'Artist Dates.' These are planned, solitary excursions to nurture your inner artist. It could be anything from visiting a museum to watching a foreign film, walking in nature, or even just spending an hour alone in a bookstore. The idea is to fill your creative well. For someone like me, who often puts others first, these dates are a powerful reminder to prioritize my own joy and inspiration. They truly help in creating something beautiful, not just externally, but internally too. This concept ties into the 'journey and painting' query, as it's about the journey of self-discovery through artistic engagement. Many people ask about different formats – 'The Artist's Way' is widely available. While the physical book is fantastic for the workbook prompts, I know some friends prefer the audiobook for listening on walks, or even a PDF version for easy access. However you choose to engage, the important thing is doing the exercises. Reinvention, as one of the search queries suggests, is a huge part of this process. The book gently guides you to challenge preconditioned beliefs and past wounds that might be blocking your creative flow. It's a journey of deep self-reflection, leading to a kind of 'glow-up' from the inside out. I've found that by being consistent with my morning pages and artist dates, I'm not just restarting a practice; I'm restarting a more authentic version of myself, ready to embrace new creative work and a more fulfilling daily routine.
