newest journaling prompt: ✨expectant✨
prompt: did you know that the Father’s desire is for you to live expectant?
expectant of His goodness and blessing. expectant of Him showing up on your behalf and enriching you to live abundantly. because of the finished work of Jesus, you are now seated with Him in heavenly places (eph. 2:6), given full access to His Kingdom, and empowered to walk in His promises (2 cor. 1:20). this means you don’t have to live wondering—you can live expectant—from the reality that His goodness is already towards you.
imagine a child in a healthy family whose birthday is approaching. she’s confident in the character and heart of her parents, so even though she must wait for the day to arrive, she waits with joy because she is certain she’ll be celebrated. when we truly know the heart of the Father, we can live with that same expectancy, even in seasons of waiting, because we trust that His goodness and mercy follow us all the days of our lives (psalm 23:6).
yes, it’s easy to become disillusioned when we experience disappointment, but we don’t have to lose hope when what we expect doesn’t happen in the timing we wanted. just as that child is certain her birthday will arrive on the right day, we can trust that God’s goodness will always come through for us at the right time.
how might God be inviting you to become expectant again?
reflect + respond: is there something you’ve stopped expecting because of a long season of waiting? take time to sit with the Holy Spirit and ask if there are any lies you’ve begun believing about the character or heart of the Father that have discouraged you from hoping again. as He reveals them, search the scriptures for truth about who God is and what He says about you. write down any verses, thoughts, or insights that stand out to you.
think of Jesus’ resurrection and ascension. how does the truth of His victory encourage you to believe again?
just as a child confidently anticipates a good gift, what would it look like for you to wait with joy and expectancy—trusting in God’s perfect timing rather than your own?
remember, the finished work of Jesus empowers you to live with confident hope and expectation. you can trust that God’s goodness, faithfulness, and promises are already moving on your behalf.
