CNA otw to RN 🤍👩🏻‍⚕️

here’s a glimpse of my nursing journey so far 💕

🗓️ January: i started working at a nursing home to get my CNA training. I knew i wanted to go to nursing school & i’ve had healthcare experience as a DSP but i wanted to see a closer look into nursing to see if it was really for me. I genuinely loved it and knew that i was making the right decision. (although i worked with mostly geriatrics i want to become a NICU nurse so ofc the experience will be different but bedside is bedside)

🗓️ February: I applied at my community college (that i attended briefly in 2019 before i knew what i wanted to do) and submitted my FAFSA. shortly after i got an acceptance letter!! (my son also turned 2 this month 🥳)

🗓️ March: I took my state test to become a licensed CNA and i passed the written and clinical on my first try!!! i was so happy i could have cried i was beyond proud of myself and my amazing teacher/boss was super supportive 💕 i kept working at the nursing home until i got very sick and since i was fairly new lets just say HR wasn’t very fond of me taking days off. I stopped working.

🗓️ May: i had a miscarriage :) which i now know was due to my underlying health issue

🗓️ June: met with my advisor at the college and registered for my Fall classes (discussed a plan for me to hopefully get into the Fall 2025 Nursing program 🤞🏼)

🗓️ July: went into DKA (diabetic keto acidosis) and was hospitalized for 3 days put on an insulin drip and therefore diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (we had no prior knowledge that i was even diabetic before this). went home with a cgm sensor on my arm and w bunch of insulin, needles and other diabetic supplies that i have to now use every day 🙂

🗓️ August: had to submit a SAP appeal because my financial aid was taken away due to my 2019 academic progress(i dropped out). Got approved, paid my tuition, got my books 🤭 TURNED 23 and now i’m just preparing to go be an academic weapon starting next week 🥳

** everyone’s journey is different. and though it’s been a rocky road i know this will all be worth it in the end 💛**

... Read moreNavigating the road from Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) to Registered Nurse (RN) is an inspiring journey filled with personal growth and resilience. The nursing profession is more than just a job; it’s about making meaningful connections and providing vital care to patients. Many who start as CNAs find their passion for nursing through hands-on experience, particularly with the geriatric population, while harboring dreams of specialized fields like neonatal or critical care nursing. For aspiring nurses, it is crucial to understand the importance of education and training. Enrolling in community college nursing programs allows students to gain essential knowledge and skills. Financial aid options, such as FAFSA, can ease tuition burdens, making education accessible for many. However, students may encounter challenges, including financial setbacks, health issues, or personal losses, and learning to cope with these challenges while maintaining focus on education is vital. Being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes as part of one's journey is a significant turning point. It underscores the importance of self-advocacy in healthcare and adapting to new lifestyles while pursuing nursing education. Students should embrace their health conditions and use their experiences to enhance their empathetic understanding of patient care. Building a strong network of support, from teachers and advisors to fellow nursing students, can help navigate the journey through nursing school and beyond. The path to becoming an RN is not easy, but with determination, planning, and community support, the goal of making a difference in patients' lives becomes attainable. Remember, every step taken, whether in triumph or adversity, adds value to your nursing story!
