Mindset Check: Opportunity vs. Burden
Sometimes even the normal, everyday things we encounter in life seem so heavy, redundant, boring and any other host of things that can make you feel worn out, drained emotionally or checked out. While these are all very real and very valid feelings, let’s take a look at how you and I look at these circumstances.
How do we really view our lives? I know that is a deep question, but think about it. When you look at your circumstances, do you view them as a burden or an opportunity? It’s difficult, but choosing daily to look at your circumstances as an opportunity instead of a burden will really change the way you view your roles, responsibilities and BLESSINGS!
And sometimes we even see our blessings as burdens, don’t we? Maybe you don’t realize it but again, think about it.
We need to get to a point as Christian’s where we see everything, all-encompassing in life, as an opportunity. An opportunity to learn, grow, provide, minister, glorify the Lord, etc.
For example, at your job, you may feel like you’re doing the same old same. While that can be an emotional burden, it’s an opportunity to earn money for your family, it’s a chance to set a Christian example and possibly touch a life.
If you’re a parent, your kids require a lot from you. But instead of thinking “When I get home I have to do laundry, cook and clean etc” which is viewing the tasks as a burden, choose to think differently. “I will be busy when I get home, but this is an opportunity and a role that allows me to show my children love, a full stomach, and provision”.
Whatever the case may be, choose daily to look at life in terms of opportunities. Be positive. Oh, and notice I said CHOOSE. It won’t be easy and it certainly won’t be natural, but getting in the habit of choosing changes your mindset and outlook. And if you ask God to help you with this, he will!
Prayer: “Heavenly Father, help me to view my roles and responsibilities in life as an opportunity and not a burden. Please help me not to take a single blessing for granted and help me not to see my blessings as burdens either. I want my roles, responsibilities and attitude to glorify you and lift up someone else. In Jesus name, Amen”
