Bought a home at 25….here’s the tea 🫖

Buying a house in your twenties can feel totally out of reach - especially with today’s prices. I get it. I had my doubts too. But here’s what gave me the confidence: we had a unique opportunity to buy from family, renovate before moving in, and invest in our future on our terms. That flexibility was everything.

There were still fears - monthly costs added up fast, and being the one responsible when something breaks is no joke. But we made room in our budget, planned for the unexpected, and trusted God every step of the way. The result? A peaceful, purpose-filled home with no HOA, space for our son to play, and room to grow with our family.

To anyone feeling intimidated by the process: you’re more capable than you think.

Start saving early, ask every question, and get that inspection! Renting has its perks, but nothing compares to the peace of pouring into a space that’s truly yours. 🙏🏼🏡

... Read moreBuying your first home can be both exhilarating and daunting, especially when done at a young age like 25. Many millennials face numerous challenges, including high housing prices, student debt, and financial uncertainty. However, with the right steps, youthful homeownership becomes a reality rather than a dream. First and foremost, it’s essential to have a financial plan in place. Start saving as early as possible, ideally creating a dedicated home purchase fund. This will prepare you financially for down payments, closing costs, and other unforeseen expenses that come with homeownership. Consider reducing unnecessary monthly expenditures to boost your savings. Additionally, understanding the importance of a thorough inspection before purchase cannot be overstated. This step helps uncover potential issues that could become costly in the future. Working with a reliable real estate agent can also streamline the home-buying process. They guide you through negotiations and assist in finding properties that meet your criteria. Another beneficial tip is to leverage your unique financial situations, like purchasing from family or friends. This can often lead to favorable deals and lesser stress compared to bidding wars in the open market. In my case, renovation before moving in added value and allowed us to tailor our new home to our family's needs. Finally, it’s crucial to recognize that homeownership is more than just the physical space; it’s about building memories and establishing roots. As you navigate this journey, remember that your first home doesn’t have to be expansive. It should be cozy and valuable to you, which is what truly matters. Celebrate the small victories and enjoy the process of creating a sanctuary for you and your loved ones.
