Turns out my relationship with food was never really about food. What’s one thing you’ve had to unlearn about food or your body?💖
Many of us grow up learning certain beliefs about food and our bodies that can actually be harmful over time. I used to think that my struggles with food were all about willpower or making the 'right' choices, but I’ve slowly realized that the real issue was deeper—often rooted in emotional and mental habits rather than the food itself. One important lesson I’ve learned is that food is not the enemy, nor is the body a source of shame. When I stopped labeling foods as 'bad' or 'off-limits,' it opened the door to a more balanced and compassionate approach. This mindset shift helped me unlearn the diet culture messages that often promote restriction and guilt. Unlearning these beliefs requires patience and self-reflection. For me, journaling and talking openly with others about food and body image helped me see how much of my thinking was influenced by external pressures. I also found that focusing on how food makes me feel—energy levels, mood, digestion—rather than just calorie content, created a more positive connection. If you’re questioning your own relationship with food, try to notice any harsh self-talk or rigid rules you might be following. Challenging these patterns can be difficult, but it’s a vital step toward healing. Remember, your worth isn’t defined by what you eat or how you look. Through this journey, self-love becomes the foundation. Embracing kindness toward yourself enables you to enjoy food without fear and appreciate your body’s unique strengths. This approach can lead to a more fulfilling and joyful experience with both food and self-image.
