Hollowing is absolutely essential for several reasons: it prevents the piece from cracking during the high temperatures of the kiln firing, ensures even drying, and also makes the final sculpture much lighter. It can be a little messy, but it’s a non-negotiable step for a successful and durable ceramic project. After the hollowing process, it’s time to add all the charming details that will truly bring this whale shark to life. This includes meticulously shaping the fins, carefully defining the characteristic wide mouth, and adding those gentle, expressive eyes.
