If I could go back in time, I would...
👼🏻. Don't look young.
When I started working, don't think of myself as a child - which I couldn't do at the time.
I tried to analyze myself as well why, probably because I studied demonstrations from elementary school to high school, and I had almost twenty demonstrators at the same time, and I graduated immediately and got a job. Life almost never had to "adapt" seriously, making me too myself.
Many older people often say that my words and gestures look young. A few years is like not growing up. And in retrospect, I think this was one of the factors that contributed to not getting promoted in time.
So when I get my second and third chance, I choose to be more mature before I say or do something to think about and be more careful about, and that's what I want to remind later generations - not to repeat my steps.
👩🏼⚖️ two. Don't let the time of self-improvement get out of hand.
I'm actually a very diligent student. Studying the curriculum is already a lot. It's not easy to get an honors grade. The first semester is about 3.5 and then I climb to the end with first honors.
But going back, I'd like to spend a little more time practicing English, especially speaking.
When I interviewed for the Fulbright scholarship before I went to college, I was on a shortlist and I was quite fluent in the interview, but the accent was Thai when competing with better people. The result was "all good, just the language."
Today I can think, work, and communicate in English, especially in my current workplace. Thai accents are no longer seen as a disadvantage, but reflect effort and practice, so that I can be praised for using language clearly and articulate.
Even so, I always thought that if I started a little earlier, the chances of that day might change.
🧑🏻💻 three. Dare to take over as boss when the time comes.
At the age of 37, my boss was moving to another position, and the company started looking for a new Head of Compliance.
The boss once asked me - at the time, I had just moved from law firm to compliance for a year - if I was interested.
I immediately shook my face. I honestly said I wasn't ready.
In my mind, I thought I could wait a little longer until the old boss retired. I would have been in my late forties.
But who knew that just three years later, the company closed down, I had to find a new job, and not having a head position made it much harder to stand up in the job market than I thought.
Finally, I became Head at the age of forty anyway - just going through more uncertainty and pressure than I should have.
This lesson clearly made me understand that.
The future is never certain. And opportunities don't come to us often.
Because losing a job on an older day without ever passing a leadership role - it's really hard.
🌠 if I could go back in time, I wouldn't change everything.
But a little braver. Grow up a little faster.
And not letting some opportunities pass just because they think "not ready."
Because today I already know that.
Sometimes I don't wait for us to grow up.
But just wait if we're brave enough
