In a modest home at 30 East Drive in Pontefract, West Yorkshire, lurks what many call Britain’s most violent poltergeist.
The story begins in the late 1960s, when the Pritchard family moved in. At first, it was harmless disturbances: lights flickering, objects moving, mysterious pools of water forming on the kitchen floor. But it quickly escalated into something far more sinister.
Heavy furniture was overturned by unseen hands. Cups and plates smashed themselves against walls. Doors rattled violently while the air grew heavy with icy winds. But the worst of it fell upon the Pritchard’s teenage daughter, Diane.
She was dragged from her bed by invisible forces. She woke to scratches carved into her skin. And she was shoved so violently one night that she was left gasping, terrified, with the imprint of hands on her throat.
Witnesses—including neighbors and even a priest—claimed to see a hooded black figure, its face obscured, drifting through the shadows. Locals whisper it’s the spirit of a 16th century monk who was executed near the house, his soul bound to the land in rage and torment.
Even today, paranormal investigators, ghost hunters, and brave visitors enter 30 East Drive hoping for a glimpse of the Black Monk. Many don’t leave unscathed—reporting deep scratches, sudden waves of dread, and the chilling certainty that they are not alone.
