witchy activities in October

2025/9/13 Edited to

... Read moreOctober always brings out the witch in me! There's just something about the crisp air and changing leaves that makes me want to dive deep into magical practices. I've been exploring different 'witchy activities' to fully immerse myself in 'October witchcraft', and I wanted to share some of my favorite ways to connect with the season's energy. One of the most fun things I've tried this year is creating a pumpkin spell. It's so simple and effective! You can carve intentions into your pumpkin – maybe for protection, abundance, or banishing negativity. As it slowly decays, it takes the old energy with it, or draws in the new. I love using a small carving knife to etch symbols or words directly onto the skin, then adorning it with herbs specific to my intention before placing it on my altar or doorstep. Another deeply meaningful practice for me this autumn is to honor the ancestors. As Samhain approaches, the veil between worlds thins, making it a perfect time to connect with those who came before us. I set up a small altar with photos, heirlooms, and offerings like fresh water, bread, or even their favorite treat. It’s a quiet way to show gratitude and draw strength from my lineage. Sometimes I just light a candle and speak their names, feeling their presence around me. October is also my favorite month to really lean into working divination. Whether it's a Tarot reading under the full moon or scrying into a bowl of water (or even a crystal ball if you have one!), the energy feels heightened. I find that my intuition is sharper, and messages come through more clearly. My go-to is usually Tarot, but I've been experimenting with pendulum work lately, asking simple yes/no questions to guide my daily decisions. It's truly empowering to tap into that inner knowing. There’s nothing quite as comforting as brewing a special witch's tea on a chilly October evening. It's not just about the warmth; it's about infusing intention into your drink. I often blend herbs like chamomile for calm, rosemary for clarity, or cinnamon for prosperity. As the steam rises, I whisper my intentions into the cup, turning a simple beverage into a potent ritual. It's a lovely way to unwind after a busy day and recenter myself. And of course, we can't forget to celebrate Samhain! For me, this is the true New Year of the witch. It’s a time for reflection, release, and setting intentions for the year ahead. A simple ritual could be lighting a bonfire (safely, of course!) and throwing in small bundles of herbs representing what you want to release. Or, preparing a 'dumb supper' – a silent meal with an extra plate for ancestors – to invite them to share in your feast. It’s a powerful moment to acknowledge cycles of life, death, and rebirth. Beyond these, I love taking nature walks to collect fallen leaves and acorns for my altar, or simply to ground myself in the changing landscape. Cleansing my space with smoke (like sage or palo santo) feels extra effective this time of year, clearing away any stagnant energies before the darker months. And journaling, especially dream journaling, has become a significant part of my autumn practice. It's amazing what insights you can uncover when you pay attention to your subconscious during this liminal season. I hope these ideas inspire you to embrace the magic of October!
