These methods help bring me back into a regulated, balanced state where I feel centered and mentally clear. On the other end, hypoarousal manifests as numbness, disconnection, or low energy, often making it difficult to engage with the world. For me, this state feels like a shutdown, and I’ve found that gentle movement, exposure to natural light, and social connection can help gently stimulate the nervous system back toward balance. The concept of the 'window of tolerance' is crucial—it represents the optimal zone where we can stay engaged, curious, and resilient despite stress. Expanding this window through practices like regular exercise, adequate sleep, and stress management improves overall nervous system health. It’s worth noting that neurodivergent individuals may experience these states differently, requiring tailored strategies to maintain regulation. Learning to identify and regulate these states not only reduces the negative impacts of stress but also enhances emotional stability, cognitive clarity, and overall quality of life. Sharing knowledge about nervous system health supports a more compassionate approach to our own and others’ mental wellness journeys.
