Should I just feed my money directly to him at this point??? Or does he not realize how expensive horse life is??? #horsegirl #costofowningahorse #funnyhorse #quarterhorse #equestrian

We barely had the trailer unloaded before Beau decided to keep things interesting. 🙃 Cellulitis = a bacterial infection in the tissue under the skin. It usually starts with something small (a scrape, a nick, a bug bite) and can turn into a hot, swollen, painful leg fast. It doesn't care if your

How horses sleep, and why it matters at a horse show 👇 Horses get roughly 2 to 7 hours of sleep a day, and most of it happens standing up thanks to a locking mechanism in their legs. But they can only get REM sleep, the deep sleep where they dream, lying down, and they need about 30 minutes of

Horse show anxiety, honestly: after the Quarter Horse Congress I think mine comes from not trusting my horse. He’s a really good horse. Riders can measure a horse’s heart rate following their own, so when I tense up in a horsemanship pattern, he feels it. My goal for next year is to stop freaking o

Still open! The pay what you can flower stand just works a little differently now — it’s build your own. Pick whatever you want, grab a vase or tie it with the string, arrange it how you like, cut the stems even, done. A dollar a stem is the going rate but it’s always pay what you can. Fresh flower

Horsemanship pattern before and after — my first try ever, my first go at the Quarter Horse Congress, and my last go. In the middle go he didn’t come down to the jog where he was supposed to, and that’s a penalty. By the last go we made it to the cone. Same horse, more collected, an extended jog th

Cellulitis in horses — Beau came home from the Quarter Horse Congress with a few scratches and swollen legs, even with standing wraps on. Cellulitis is a bacterial infection under the skin, and it’s very painful. The vet came out right away, and that’s why it’s manageable: caught early, it usually

Hat shaping at the Quarter Horse Congress, part 2. Danny from @Howell Western Wear shaped my 4X show hat and explained why hat shapes look completely different from state to state, how to line the crease up with your eyes, and where my older hat is showing wear and tear. #cowboyhat #hatshaping

Doing my horse girl thing is everything! I live for the horse show life and the Quarter Horse Congress is the biggest stage for it!! I like for the pattern classes at horse shows and the equitation pattern had me feeling pretty locked in this year ❤️ # #horseshow # #equitation # #quarterhorse # #ho

Horse show nerves before my second horsemanship pattern at the Quarter Horse Congress. This time it was Non Pro Horsemanship, and my horse and I both stayed way calmer than in our first Level 1 Amateur pattern. No callback in a deep class of 98 entries, but this is a pattern I can be proud of.

Hunt seat equitation pattern breakdown from the Quarter Horse Congress. My Level 1 Amateur pattern was beautiful, and I was so close. The gate was slow to open, I felt like I had to hurry so the judges weren't waiting, and I started my pattern before the cone. That's a 5-point penalty. The spicy po

Pay what you can flower stand in Lansing is open this weekend on Kipling Blvd, just south of Saginaw Hwy near Frandor. It's late October and I'm shocked how much the garden is still producing: zinnias, cosmos, marigolds, strawflowers and snapdragons. Covered booth, cash or Venmo @Maria-Rising,

Late October garden tour for zone 6b in Lansing, Michigan, and somehow still no hard frost. After two weeks at the Quarter Horse Congress, I was up waiting for the sun so I could go out and see everything. Marigolds, zinnias, cosmos, strawflowers and snapdragons are still blooming everywhere. t

Breaking down my second horsemanship pattern at the Quarter Horse Congress This is the Level 1 Horse Non Pro Horsemanship, a seriously deep class with 98 entries. After my first pattern, we needed some redemption. He was still a little spicy, but this time we executed much closer to what we

Horse show nerves before my first horsemanship pattern at the Quarter Horse Congress. Before: nervous, excited, cold wind blowing the warm-up tent, hoping for a calm, collected Level 1 Amateur Horsemanship pattern. After: a very spicy horse and big penalties, but a real plan for our Non Pro

Pure, sweet euphoria. Every hunter rider knows this exact moment. Hunter Under Saddle at the Quarter Horse Congress, and the best part nobody talks about 👇 You lay down a great ride, you walk out of the pen, and then the helmet comes off. #quarterhorsecongress #hunterundersaddle

Quarter Horse Congress day 13, our last day 👇 We started with Amateur Showmanship and @onnaroberts , and we pulled a shoe on the way over to the Coughlin Celeste. Quick detour to the farrier to get it back on. Watching a farrier work is honestly mesmerizing. Our friend Bree showed in the same class
