Junk journal entry #2
I added a page from an October concert after a December entry.
My first instinct was to “fix” it.
Then I remembered that’s the point of a junk journal - that
it doesn’t have to be in order or perfect.
Practicing letting this be imperfect
Junk journaling is a wonderfully freeing creative outlet where the usual rules of order and perfection don't apply. When I decided to add a page from an October concert after a December page, I initially felt compelled to rearrange it to maintain chronological order. However, I quickly reminded myself that the beauty of a junk journal lies in its ability to reflect your personal creative process—messy, spontaneous, and uniquely meaningful. This approach helped me relax and embrace the imperfections rather than seeing them as mistakes. Each page becomes a moment in time captured by feelings, events, and visuals rather than a linear timeline. For example, including a concert ticket stub from a 2022 event at the Rose Bowl with phrases like "I'D LOVE IF YOU KNEW YOU WERE ON MY MIND," creates an emotional connection that transcends simple date order. Incorporating elements that resonate emotionally or artistically, rather than chronologically, deepens the journaling experience and allows for more personal expression. The practice of letting go of the need for perfection also parallels many creative journeys, where the process often involves trial, error, and unexpected discoveries. For those exploring junk journals, I'd encourage focusing less on the neatness and more on the story you want to tell through your collected moments. Using mixed media like ticket stubs, handwritten notes, and photos can bring your pages to life and make the journal a vibrant memory capsule. In sharing this, I hope to inspire others to cherish their creative imperfections and find joy in the unique rhythm of their journaling path.
