This is my father. He’s here visiting me this week along with my older brother in town from DC and my little sister joining us from Miami as well and my other sister that lives here in Tampa too. #ModernFamily This is the definition of perseverance and resilience and attitude. #FuckCancer I love you Papi @Gaby Gabriel ##thesavvimom
Living with a loved one who is battling stage 4 cancer profoundly changes your perspective on life and family. In my experience, what stands out most is the incredible power of mindset. Like the father described here, who has been fighting cancer that has spread from his brain to his lungs and abdomen, maintaining a positive attitude and resilience can make a remarkable difference. Even after years of dealing with a difficult diagnosis, it's inspiring to see someone focus on living fully, going on morning walks, and keeping up with daily routines. Attitude affects not only physical health but emotional well-being too. I’ve seen firsthand how celebrating small victories, like staying sober for over 40 years or adhering to healthy habits such as hydration and diet, helps sustain strength. Family plays an essential role in this journey. Whether siblings are traveling from different cities or staying close by, their presence and support create a vital network of encouragement and shared hope. Calling out and challenging the sickness mindset by reframing the narrative—saying "I’m removing the cancer" instead of "I have cancer"—changes the way one approaches treatment and recovery. To anyone facing a similar challenge, know that cancer is not just a physical battle but a mental one too. Seek out your community, maintain daily rituals that bring you peace, and stay rooted in hope. Perseverance and a fighting spirit are contagious within families, and this unity can become a powerful source of healing and strength.
