Solar panels and EV charging points must have TIS.
The Minister of Industry, Eknat Ready, revealed that in the wake of frequent solar panel fires that affect people's lives and property, the Ministry commissioned the Office of Industrial Standards (Anchor) to require both domestically produced and imported solar panels to qualify for mandatory standards to enhance safety in their use.
At the Anchor Board meeting on July 23, 2025, it was approved that solar panels be a controlled product, from the original to the common standard, which is now licensed by eight domestic manufacturers. Solar panels are a highly popular product and are easily available on the market, including online channels, but they lack systematic quality monitoring. Designation as a controlled product will allow for more effective and thorough supervision.
Anchor Secretary Wanchai Phnom Chai added that there are two approved standards: the crystalline silicon solar panel standard and the safety standard, which covers heat resistance testing, leakage protection, fire progression, and automatic power cutting systems. There are also three types of electric vehicle charging kits: portable for general home lighting, permanently installed in homes or public places, and direct current fast charging, often installed in gas stations. The anchor will accelerate the implementation of the five standards by 2026.
For a manufacturer or importer who contravenes the requirements to bring non-standard goods into the distribution, there will be a penalty of up to 2 years imprisonment or a fine of up to 2 million baht or both fines.
In addition, the meeting approved 60 new product standards and testing methods, such as cloud computing technology, the Internet of Things, artificial device bodies, artificial eye lenses, essential oils, sealed container bamboo shoots, low-protein condensed latex, and commercial washing machines, ready to prepare 14 additional standards in 2025, such as rebar for prestressed concrete, grating wire rails, rubber pellets, roofing ceramic tiles, and light-mass ceramic wall plates for a total of 785 standards.
