Chinese cars have invaded the Israeli market. It already occupies nearly 30% of the share.
The Department for International Trade Promotion (DITP) reports that the Israeli car market is clearly changing its brand, with the continued expansion of Chinese car brands infiltrating, many distributors accelerating the opening of new showrooms in potential locations across the country, accommodating growing demand and intensifying competition in the market.
In the last quarter of 2025, several new showrooms are expected to be launched across Israel with a total investment of tens of millions of shekels. GAC Aion is set to open five showrooms by September through distribution by Orion Mobility affiliate Union Motors. The main showroom will be located in Raanana, on Hanofar 2a Road, covering 300 square meters with administrative offices. Other showrooms will open in Tel Aviv, Kaifa, Rishon, Lecion and Modiin, focusing on modern design and online marketing. The investment will start at 7.5 million shekels (71.98 million).
GAC is set to launch a range of electric cars in Israel, covering a wide range of customers, with prices ranging from 140,000-250,000 shekels (1,343,685.38- 2,399,438.18 million). The brand's first cars have arrived in Ashdod, including a large electric crossover aimed directly at competing with the Tesla Model Y.
The Lubinski Group side is set to import the premium IM brand from the SAIC Group. The main showroom will be located in Herzliya instead of the DS brand, which will be moved to Tel Aviv. While another IM showroom will open at the Check Post, Kaifa, instead of the former MG showroom, which will be moved to a new building at Hahermesh 28. IM will launch two large electric cars: a saloon and a crossover, competing with the Tesla Model Y and Model 3, with a valuation price of 200,000-300,000 shekels (1,919,550.55-2,879,325.82 million) with a value highlight. Colmobil, a major Israeli importer, began construction of a new showroom complex at Nesher, near Kaifa, totaling over 8,000 square meters to include all showrooms in the same region, with the advance of construction of a 6,600 square meter showroom in Beersheva, which is expected to be completed in early 2027.
Meanwhile, a Chinese company, BAIC, is set to launch in Europe and Israel later this year, negotiating the lease of showroom space in Herzliya and Rishon Lezion, focusing on gasoline and hybrid vehicles, especially crossover groups, estimated at 140,000-200,000 shekels (1,343 685.38-1, 919,550.55 million).
Israel is considered one of the developed countries with the most Chinese car brands on sale, with 21 Chinese brands currently on the market, and at least five more new brands are expected by the end of the year.
Recent estimates indicate that the share of the Chinese car market in Israel may reach 30% of total deliveries by the end of 2025, with this growth due to the expansion of its product portfolio from electric vehicles to hybrids, plug-in hybrids and gasoline vehicles, which answers a wider range of market problems.
In the first four months of 2025, Chinese brands occupied 92% of the plug-in hybrid car market, accounting for 6.2% of all new car deliveries. The Chinese hybrid car market grew from less than 1% a year earlier to 6.6% and is expected to continue to increase, with new models from MG and BAIC being launched soon.
