Khmer media threatened by government for reporting border facts
Khmer reporters were called by the government, threatened and revoked their permits for releasing false news after reporting the fact that Cambodians had been expelled from the Thai army.
As of Aug. 20, 2025, a reporter from CCN TV, a media outlet in Cambodia, presented the news that "Cambodia lost territory" in a case in which Thai soldiers fenced barbed wire and drove individuals out of poaching areas, causing a wave in which Cambodians were saddened and felt defeated.
On the afternoon of Aug. 21, Mr. Mazara posted an apology, saying, "I'm running a fake news. I'm sorry. I'm not going to run a news story that degrades the country anymore!"
While another post said, "Help, don't do me. I have a wife. My child is small!"
The Cambodian press presented a picture of Mas Zara, who was threatened by Cambodian officials, and said, "Will anyone else reveal the truth after this?"
