VinGroup invested in building a port in Haiphong City.
Vingroup has spent over $14 billion, built a giant port-logistics center at Haiphong, hopes to modernize Vietnam's logistics, support increased shipping volumes, and attract investors from around the world.
Vietnam's major private conglomerate, Vingroup, approved an investment plan to build a port and logistics center, "Nam Do Son," worth more than $14,300 million ($4.6 billion), on 4,400 hectares of land in the southern coastal economic region of Haiphong, covering the districts of Bihai and Nam Do Sen, with a 70-year operation.

- The first phase (2026-2030) has invested around 29,100 billion.
- The second phase (2031-2035) invested 206,272 billion.
- The final phase (2036-2040) invested 138,461 billion.
Vingroup will hold an investment stake of 15% of the value of the project; the rest comes from additional funding.

Vingroup and its affiliates have several large projects in the area, e.g.
- A $1,500 million VinFast car factory on Kathai Island.
- 4th Vinhomes real estate project in Yengking District. 240 hectares.
- Previous projects include Royal Island (870 hectares), Imperiia (78 hectares) and Mariana (50 hectares).
There is also a plan to build Phase 1 of the Tanjao and Nakphuk Industrial Estate in 2026, including the Liquefied Natural Gas Power Plant (LNG) project.

After amalgamation with the province of Laxek, Haiphong has more than 15 large industrial estates and is one of the country's largest deep-water ports. The volume of goods through the port is growing by an average of 12-15% per year. 2024 is 190 million tons. 2025 is expected to increase to 212 million tons.
The South Coast Economic Zone has an area of about 20,000 hectares, requiring an investment of 400,000 to 600,000 million over 10 years, with foreign-funded industrial areas being the main driver. However, the Dinghwu-Kathai Economic Zone established since 2008 has been fully developed, providing land restrictions for new projects.
