Section 2 captain warns of opening border checkpoints
September 11, 2025, Lt. Gen. Boonsin Drape in the middle of the second division, spoke during a special lecture to Royal Yala University students on the theme "Combining Thai Flesh for the Preservation of National Sovereignty," at one point answering public questions about the approach to the opening of the Thai-Cambodian border, which is under consideration by the General Border Committee (GBC).
According to Lt. Gen. Boonsin, opening checkpoints is not only economic, but important to national security, especially when Thai resources such as oil, cement and consumer products flow into Cambodia, which can result in more potential opponents, even in stressful situations.
Lt. Merit Sin also pointed out that the opening of checkpoints allowed some Thais to engage in illegal activities, gambling and social media deception, which instead damaged Thais themselves, especially in border areas with casinos and scrammer networks.
Although acknowledging that the closure affects some entrepreneurs, Lt. Gen. Boonsin emphasized that "national interests must come before their own interests," calling on people to be critical in obtaining information and monitoring government reasons.
"The border has to be thoughtful. Who exactly benefits? We all need to take care of our Thailand," said Lt. Merit Sin.
