Malaysia is on track to become the aviation manufacturing hub of the Asia-Pacific region, with revenue targets from the aerospace industry expected to hit RM30,000 million, or about RM226,000 million, by 2025, up from RM25,100 million a year ago, the highest level in a decade.
According to Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) Tengu Datam Liberal Safrul Tengu Abdul Aziz, this growth trend is driven by investment projects already in the country, including confidence from leading global companies such as Airbus and Boeing that have expanded their manufacturing base in Malaysia, especially CTRM (Composites Technology Research Malaysia), a key composite material producer in the supply chain of the aircraft industry.
The industry is also instrumental in creating over 30,000 jobs, highlighting advanced skills in engineering and technology lines, reflecting the country's potential to develop advanced manufacturing industries.
MyAERO Summit 2026: Aviation World Bridging Stage
One of Malaysia's key strategies is to host MyAERO Summit 2026 next June, which will be an international forum that unites aviation equipment manufacturers (OEMs), researchers, policymakers and STEM personnel from around the world, providing small and medium enterprises (SMEs) with the opportunity to build business networks and access new technologies.
The Minister stressed that this event will help spark a new generation into science, technology, engineering and mathematics, which is a major force for future industries.
Analysis of the Impact on Thailand: Opportunities in the Race Shadow
The growth of the Malaysian aerospace industry may increase the pressure on Thailand to compete in attracting foreign direct investment (FDI), particularly in the advanced manufacturing field. However, this is an opportunity for Thai enterprises, especially potential SMEs in machine parts, composite materials, rubber and maintenance services (MRO).
Thailand can become part of Malaysia's supply chain through research partnerships, technology transfer and STEM workforce development to strengthen its long-term competitiveness.
Joining MyAERO Summit 2026 is also an important channel to open up new markets, build strategic alliances and learn global technology trends that will enhance the Thai aviation industry to keep pace with the region.
