VinGroup wades to build largest LNG power plant in Vietnam
Vingroup, a major Vietnamese business group, started the construction of the country's largest LNG power plant in Hayfong with an investment budget of over 178 trillion pickles ($2.2 billion). The project covers 100 hectares with a total capacity of 4,800 megawatts. It is operated under a joint venture between Vingroup and VinEnergo.
The power plant is located within the Denzhue Industrial Estate, where the opening ceremony took place on the same day. The estate covers 227 hectares with an investment value of over 4 trillion pickles (4.9 billion baht). Developed by Vinhomes, a real estate company affiliated with Vingroup, it is expected to take about five years to build the area into a new industrial and technological center, supporting tens of thousands of quality workers.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Jijn said at the opening ceremony: "Both projects are critical to the development of the country's industry, attracting foreign investment and promoting a systematic transition to clean energy." It emphasized accelerating the development of the estate to accommodate high-tech entrepreneurs and pushing for the completion of power plants by 2029 - a year ahead of schedule, to be implemented in tandem with foreign technology transfer and domestic capacity.
On the side, Mr. Nguyen Viet Quang, Vice President and Chief Executive Officer of Vingroup, said that "the development of power plants and industrial estates in tandem; will help promote investment and sustainable growth," while stating that Vingroup plans to expand this integrated development model to other regions throughout the country; to support national industrial development and modernization goals.
The city of Hayfong is also the main manufacturing base of VinFast, the automaker affiliated with Vingroup, which has been hardwired since 2019 and has been instrumental in driving the city's ongoing economy.
