Hey I’m an art student working to get my bachelor’s in art education, here’s how the semester went.
It’s finally over. The semester was not too bad but I felt like it was never ending and didn’t want to do any work. I took three course the were beneficial for my art education degree.
📚Curriculum Development: Creating an entire curriculum unit from start to finish.
📚Designing Careers: Preparing for future employers. Working in cover letters, resumes, personal marketing plan, and references.
📚Silkscreen 1: My only studio course was using screens and stencils to create prints.

Navigating through my spring semester as an art student truly gave me a deeper appreciation for both the creative and practical skills needed in art education. The course in Curriculum Development was particularly eye-opening because it challenged me to think about how to structure lessons that not only engage students but also help them grow artistically and intellectually. Being able to design an entire unit from start to finish was demanding but rewarding, as it made me consider every detail from learning objectives to assessment. Designing Careers was another vital course that helped me prepare for life after graduation. Working on cover letters, resumes, and personal marketing plans felt tedious at times, but it was necessary to build confidence in presenting myself professionally to future employers. I especially valued creating a personal marketing plan that aligns with my artistic identity and career goals. The studio course, Silkscreen 1, was where I could express my creativity hands-on. Using screens and stencils to create prints allowed me to experiment with new techniques and materials, adding a tactile dimension to my learning experience. It was a refreshing break from the theory-heavy courses and reminded me why I chose art education in the first place. Throughout the semester, I noticed moments where motivation lagged and the workload felt never-ending, which I’m sure many students can relate to. However, reflecting back, I realize how each course contributed to my overall development as an artist and educator. These experiences have better equipped me for both teaching art and navigating the professional world. For anyone pursuing art education, embracing a balance between creative studio practice and academic preparation is key to success and growth.
