I was sitting by myself at work the other day (still hurting and moving around like a 97-year-old action figure 😥), minding my business, when two coworkers decided my personal space was now public property. 😂
Now, I can't be too mad because apparently my invisible "Do Not Disturb" force field was malfunctioning. They walked right through it like it wasn't even there. 🤣
Next thing I know, they're having one of those never-ending debates and somehow appointed me the referee.
Bad idea. I'm kinda blunt, straight forward and I don't coddle grown adults. The truth is the truth. Honesty is the greatest sign of respect and Christian love.
I don't believe in participation trophies.
Life is life, and life be LIFE-ing.
Somewhere along the way, we've started treating basic adult responsibilities like they're Olympic achievements.
"I pay my bills."
Congratulations. That's called adulthood.
"I'm raising my child."
Praise God. That's called parenting.
"I'm working a job."
Excellent. That's called employment.
"I stayed home instead of going out because I needed sleep."
Welcome to being tired and responsible. 😂
Now don't get me wrong. Some people are carrying incredibly heavy loads, and they deserve grace, encouragement, and support. Scripture tells us to "carry each other's burdens" (Galatians 6:2). But carrying a burden and building an identity around your burden are two different things.
Responsibility is something you do. It's not who you are.
You are not "the single parent."
You are not "the bill payer."
You are not "the exhausted employee."
You are not "the person holding everything together."
Those may be assignments in this season, but they are not your identity.
The Bible says our identity is found in Christ. We are children of God, heirs with Christ, redeemed, loved, forgiven, and chosen. Those titles don't disappear because your alarm clock goes off at 5 a.m., your bills are due, or your kids need something every 17 minutes. 😂
Doing what you're supposed to do is honorable. It deserves respect.
But let's not confuse responsibility with royalty.
Paying your bills doesn't make you a king.
Raising your child doesn't automatically make you a saint.
Going to work doesn't make you a legend.
It makes you responsible.
And in a world where people are constantly looking for validation, maybe the real flex isn't announcing every responsibility you're handling.
Maybe the real flex is handling your business, trusting God, and keeping it moving.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going back behind my invisible wall before somebody else volunteers me to moderate another debate. 🤣🤦🏾♂️🙏🏾
