Why populated the world and with mediocrity?

Thanksgiving with extended family was a 5-hour drive for a 1-hour sigh fest. My cousins (my age or younger) have 3+ kids each, most unmarried with different co-parents, and fathers nowhere to be found. The moms look absolutely miserable, eyes heavy with that ""stuck"" melancholy.

Financially, mentally, socially, they’re crippled. Stuck in this cycle of popping out kids without stability, hanging around grandma’s house forever like there’s no other option. It’s sad as hell, and now I get why my parents kept me away from that. My aunt was making plates for grown-ass cousins (24-35!) who walk around in sweats and slides, no ambition, only one of them even owns a car. Meanwhile, people like me with careers, disposable income, no struggles are in no rush for kids.

Why do people with barely two nickels to rub together keep populating the world with this cycle of mediocrity? Unpopular take but am I wrong? Has anyone else witnessed this toxic family cycle around kids and stability?

... Read moreThis topic touches a nerve for many who have witnessed families trapped in cycles where economic hardship and lack of stability perpetuate a difficult environment for raising children. One key factor is how financial stress limits opportunities for education and career growth, which in turn impacts family planning choices and ambitions. Those living paycheck to paycheck often face barriers to accessing family planning resources and education, which may contribute to having more children despite unstable circumstances. There is also a societal element where some communities experience normalized expectations of early and multiple parenthood, sometimes as a way to maintain a sense of purpose or connection amidst limited opportunities. Unfortunately, without adequate support systems, this can lead to a cycle where lack of financial independence and emotional fulfillment fuels a pervasive sense of being "stuck," as highlighted in the original discussion. Conversely, many individuals with stable careers and resources tend to delay having children until conditions feel right, reflecting a broader trend of prioritizing personal and financial readiness. This divergence in family planning approaches can illuminate broader social and economic divides. Breaking this cycle often involves increasing access to education, healthcare, and community support that empower individuals to make informed choices about family size and stability. Programs aimed at financial literacy, relationship counseling, and parenting education can also help mitigate the challenges detailed in the article. Ultimately, understanding the root causes behind these family dynamics requires empathy and comprehensive social policies that address systemic inequalities rather than simply judging individual choices. Discussion around this sensitive subject benefits from a balanced view that recognizes complexities without promoting stigma, aiming to find ways to support families towards healthier, more stable futures.

The matter of the fact is people of lower income status have children to survive. It’s privileged to shame people of lower income status. Having children is biological in nature, we see it in cases like genocide, mass reproduction. It’s survival, so to shame low income people for reproducing is extremely privileged. Society makes it almost impossible for these people to be fluid in this society. Look at society first, it’s humbling and an excellent opportunity to learn why people behave the way they do.

A ChatGPT conversation discussing how America would be different if Europeans never discovered it. It clarifies pre-existing Indigenous civilizations and begins 'Scenario 1: No European Contact at All,' outlining consequences like independent Indigenous development and no Atlantic slave trade.
Continuing 'Scenario 1: No European Contact at All,' this image lists consequences such as no United States and no demographic collapse from diseases. It then introduces 'Scenario 2: Europeans Arrive Much Later,' suggesting Indigenous societies might have developed stronger immunity or military parity.
This image continues 'Scenario 2,' suggesting colonization might have been trade partnerships. It introduces 'Scenario 3: Someone Else Arrives First,' then lists 'The Biggest Changes We Wouldn't Have,' including no English-dominated US, no Spanish Latin America, and no transatlantic slavery.
