Part 1 - What I observed in top tier companies?

Background - 29 years old in Fintech, neighbourhood school & NUS scholar, 5 figure a month

1. Market trend:

- Outsourcing of talents to cheaper countries like Malaysia, Vietnam (3-5x cheaper)

- Hiring of PRs for high pay jobs

- fresh grads telling me how hard it is to find a job

2. Singaporean academic alone is not attractive.

- NTU/NUS/SMU. Having these names help, but it’s ‘basic’. Why pay 3-5X for someone with more relevant experience?

- People overseas start way younger than Singaporeans, not at 23/25 from Uni.

- Youths with more exposure, sharper thinking wins the game & maintain our edge.

Will share in the next post some tips i used to secure 7 offers, 22 top company interviews & what i learnt from top professionals!

... Read moreFrom my experience observing hiring trends in top-tier fintech companies, fresh graduates often face challenges because the market increasingly values hands-on experience and exposure over just academic credentials from prestigious universities like NUS, NTU, or SMU. One key takeaway is that many firms outsource talent to countries like Malaysia and Vietnam, where the cost is significantly lower, impacting local hiring dynamics. For fresh grads, this means it’s essential to seek practical experience early, whether through internships, projects, or freelance work, to stand out. Employers are looking for youths who demonstrate sharp thinking, adaptability, and relevant skills, often prioritizing younger candidates with early exposure over those who enter the workforce later. Balancing the benefits of your academic background with real-world exposure can increase your hiring success. For example, supplementing your degree with certifications, attending industry events, and networking can open doors. Also, being aware of alternative pathways such as applying for permanent resident roles or positions in related fields might increase job opportunities. Lastly, keep updating your skillset to align with market needs and be prepared to showcase your unique experiences and perspectives during interviews. These strategies helped me secure seven offers and twenty-two top company interviews, proving that adapting to the market reality and balancing lessons from both fresh and experienced hiring practices is crucial in today’s competitive job environment.

“Teamwork” a Myth in My Intern Company? 🤨
This didn’t happen to me personally. But… as an intern, you observe a lot. And one thing I’ve noticed? Some people in the office are always at their desks. When I arrive in the morning, they’re already deep in their screens. When I leave at the end of the day, they’re still there. At first
