You just saw my take on the #SVVDTIYS challenge, and I wanted to chat a bit more about why these Draw This In Your Style challenges are so amazing for artists, and how you can join in the fun! I absolutely love them because they're a fantastic way to push your creativity, explore new techniques, and connect with other artists globally. It’s truly inspiring to see everyone's diverse interpretations of the same prompt! When I saw svv.art's original design for this challenge – the adorable green-skinned alien girl with her bright blue hair, holding that tiny grey alien and the cute UFO against a vibrant pink background – I knew I had to join. Her shy expression was just too charming to resist, and the overall aesthetic was so kawaii! It gave me a perfect opportunity to practice my character design and digital painting skills on my iPad using Procreate. If you're thinking about jumping into a DTIYS challenge yourself, here are a few tips I find super helpful: Identify Core Elements: Before you start, look at the original artwork and pick out the key features that make it recognizable. For svv.art's piece, it was definitely the alien girl, her distinct colors, the little alien friend, and the UFO. Keeping these elements intact ensures your piece is clearly part of the challenge. Infuse Your Unique Style: This is the most exciting part! Think about how you would draw this character. Do you have a particular line weight? A signature coloring method? Maybe you want to give the character a slightly different pose or expression while maintaining their essence. Don't be afraid to let your personal flair shine through! Experiment with Tools & Mediums: Use the challenge as an excuse to try something new! I chose my iPad and Procreate for this piece, which allowed me to play with digital brushes and layers.
