risperidone side effects💊

my experience with this medication was a roller coaster. my appetite was HUGE and i started gaining weight within the first couple weeks. i ended up gaining 60 pounds in 7 months and my body confidence was at an all time low. i started lactating and ended up getting a pituitary tumor which has caused me to gain even more weight and become really irritable. i just stopped it last month and i already feel better. i’m curious if this is just me or if other people have had this experience or one similar.

... Read moreIt's truly eye-opening to hear about your journey with Risperidone. Many of us who’ve been on psychiatric medications can relate to the struggles of managing side effects while trying to improve our mental health. Your experience, especially with significant weight gain and hormonal changes, is a stark reminder that medication impacts everyone differently, and it’s valid to feel frustrated and even isolated when these things happen. It’s important to remember that you're not alone in facing these challenges, and while your personal experience with Risperidone is unique, some of the issues you encountered are unfortunately quite common. Let's talk a bit more about why some of these side effects occur and what general advice might be helpful, based on what many individuals share about their own experiences. Weight gain, for instance, is a frequently reported side effect with certain antipsychotics like Risperidone. This isn’t just about increased appetite, though that’s a big part of it! These medications can sometimes affect our metabolism, making our bodies store fat more readily and burn calories less efficiently. It can feel disheartening when you're trying your best but the scale keeps climbing. To help manage this, some people find it beneficial to work closely with a dietitian or nutritionist, focusing on nutrient-dense foods and mindful eating habits. Incorporating regular physical activity, even just daily walks, can also make a difference, not only for weight but also for overall well-being. Your mention of lactation and a pituitary tumor points to another significant area: hormonal imbalances, specifically elevated prolactin levels. Risperidone is known to sometimes increase prolactin, a hormone produced by the pituitary gland. High prolactin can lead to symptoms like lactation (galactorrhea), menstrual irregularities in women, and even sexual dysfunction in both men and women. In some cases, prolonged high prolactin can contribute to benign pituitary adenomas (tumors), as you experienced. This highlights the critical importance of regular monitoring by your doctor, including blood tests to check prolactin levels, especially if you're experiencing related symptoms. If prolactin levels are high, your doctor might consider adjusting the dosage, switching to a different medication, or prescribing additional medication to lower prolactin. Beyond these more severe effects, many individuals on Risperidone might also report other common side effects such as drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, or fatigue. These often improve over time, but if they persist or are bothersome, discussing them with your healthcare provider is key. It's a continuous conversation to find the right balance between therapeutic benefit and manageable side effects. Never hesitate to advocate for yourself and share your full experience, similar to your powerful sharing of "my experience with RISPERIDONE." Remember, adjusting medication should always be done under the guidance of a medical professional. Your journey is valid, and finding the right path for your mental and physical health is a process that takes time and open communication.
