Busy week for a proud outfit repeater 💅

I was honored to be invited to speak about who pays for sustainable travel at the Center for Responsible Travel’s  World Tourism Forum with the brilliant Sarah Payne, Senior Director of Impact the UnTours Foundation.

And then I capped off the week asking a LOT of questions (as I do) at #MVCon2025, a conference on the business of blogging.

Luckily, I’m pretty used to the whiplash of bringing these two worlds together, and feeling inspired for a new week ahead!

... Read moreNavigating the intersection of sustainable travel and blogging requires a unique blend of knowledge and adaptability. Attending the Center for Responsible Travel’s World Tourism Forum offered a deep dive into pressing questions such as "who pays for sustainable travel?" This topic is critical as the tourism sector seeks to balance economic growth with environmental stewardship and social responsibility. Experts like Sarah Payne, Senior Director of Impact at the UnTours Foundation, emphasize the importance of funding models that support long-term sustainability without compromising local communities. Transitioning to the realm of blogging at #MVCon2025, the focus shifts to how content creators leverage their platforms to promote sustainability while managing the practical realities of online business. Bloggers act as key influencers, blending authenticity with strategic communication to engage audiences interested in responsible travel. Asking thoughtful questions at such conferences helps unravel challenges and opportunities faced by content creators committed to sustainability. The experience of moving from being "the influencer" at a sustainable travel conference to the "sustainability expert" at a blogging event within one week illustrates the dynamic nature of these interconnected fields. It also underscores the evolving role of digital storytellers who must stay informed, engage deeply with complex subjects, and translate these insights for their followers. For those interested in sustainable travel and blogging, it is essential to understand both the economic and ethical aspects discussed in these forums. Engaging with experts and peers fosters a community invested in creating travel experiences that are enriching, responsible, and economically viable. This dual focus ultimately drives innovation in how travel is marketed and experienced, encouraging a shift towards more mindful and impactful tourism practices.
