The Most Powerful Learning Happens When No One Notices.

Before becoming a mum, I used to think learning happened when we sat down with worksheets or flashcards.

Now I see it so differently.

Some of the best learning has happened while waiting for food at a restaurant, sitting at the doctor’s clinic, on a rainy afternoon at home, or even 30,000 feet in the air.

Children don’t always need to be entertained.

Sometimes they just need something meaningful to do.

A simple activity can become a conversation.

A game can become a learning moment.

And before we know it, they’re practising focus, language, problem-solving and fine motor skills without feeling like they’re “doing work.”

That’s one of the reasons I created the Tiny Busy Bag.

It’s not about keeping them busy.

It’s about making those little in-between moments count. 🤍

Where does your little one get the most restless?

... Read moreAs a parent, I've come to realize that the most impactful learning experiences for children often happen outside traditional settings. The moments we usually overlook—waiting at a restaurant, sitting in a doctor's office, or simply being indoors on a rainy day—are goldmines for development. I remember a long plane trip with my toddler when I pulled out a simple matching game. Not only did it keep my child engaged, but it suddenly turned the journey into an enjoyable and educational experience. The toddler practiced fine motor skills while focusing on matching cards. We even played "I Spy" using the objects around us to spark language and observational skills. In fact, these little games help children develop important skills like concentration, problem-solving, and language without the pressure or monotony of formal "work." It’s all about meaningful engagement, not just keeping them busy. Small invitations to play can ignite curiosity, creativity, and confidence, turning even the smallest pockets of time into valuable learning moments. Most importantly, creating these experiences makes waiting less frustrating for kids and more meaningful for parents. Whether you’re en route on a plane or waiting for food at a restaurant, bringing along simple tools or activities—like those found in the Tiny Busy Bag—can transform those moments. I personally carry a compact bag filled with a few essential toys, games, and books that require no screen time but offer endless possibilities for learning and fun. I encourage other parents to observe where their little ones get restless most often and tailor simple, age-appropriate activities for those situations. For example, memory games and matching pairs are fantastic for waiting rooms, while a few color or shape spotting games can brighten up a restaurant visit. On rainy days, setting up small, creative play invitations at home can spark imagination and engagement. The beauty of this approach is that it doesn’t demand elaborate preparation—just mindfulness to the learning opportunities in everyday life. Keeping this perspective can transform daily routines into powerful moments of growth that stay with children far beyond childhood.
