Microloc journey — excited or excited? 🤎

Starting a microloc journey can be both exciting and challenging, especially in the first few days as your hair begins to transform. On day 3, it's common to notice shrinkage and changes in texture that might feel unfamiliar at first. From my experience, embracing this phase is crucial because it signals that your hair is adjusting naturally and healthily to the new style. One important lesson I’ve learned is to trust the process completely. Microlocs require patience; the early days involve your hair settling into neat, small locks that will grow and mature over weeks and months. Avoid the urge to manipulate or retwist too often, as this can cause breakage or slow down the locking process. Hydration is key during this time. Keeping your scalp moisturized and your hair nourished will help prevent dryness and encourage healthy growth. I use a light leave-in conditioner and natural oils like jojoba or coconut to maintain moisture without weighing my hair down. Another tip is to protect your microlocs while sleeping by using a satin or silk scarf or bonnet. This reduces friction and helps your hair maintain its shape day by day. Overall, my microloc journey has taught me to be patient and appreciate the natural rhythm of my hair’s growth. I’m excited to see how my locs will mature over time, and I encourage anyone starting their microloc journey to embrace every stage with love and care.
