Our Crystal Business Started with a Mistake

Hi Zesties! 🍋

When we first started researching the crystal bracelet industry, we kept seeing the term “Gem Show” pop up everywhere. So we dug deeper and found out that there are also Jewelry Expos in Singapore.

We were so excited… until we realised the next one was in July. And at that point of time, July felt like three lifetimes away. So we kept searching and found the Singapore Mineral Show.

Somehow we thought minerals = crystals = beaded crystals. 🫠

The crystals there are all so pretty, and tons of different types of crystals in different forms… Just no beaded crystals.

Technically the event wasn’t lying, It's named 'Mineral show' for a reason and we probably weren’t thinking at all before going there. They are crystals, just not in the beaded form.

Despite all that, we still walked out with some crystals (for ourselves).

I picked up:

🔮a Fluorite sphere

🦉a Selenite owl plate

My cousin chose a Malachite, because she said she felt something really strong when she held it. I felt… nothing

After owning my Fluorite sphere for one week, I accidentally broke it.

I stood there in shock. Silent. Frozen. For a solid 3 minutes.

My sphere ahhhhhh!!

Not exactly the crystal-buying experience we imagined when we first started… But honestly? It was still pretty fun.

And yes, lesson learned:

👉 Mineral shows are amazing, but not for beaded crystals.

To infinity and beyond,

Shi Min

... Read moreVisiting a Gem Show or Mineral Show for the first time can be both exciting and a little confusing, especially when you’re just starting out in the crystal business. From my experience at the Singapore Mineral Show, I learned that understanding the variety of crystals and their forms is crucial. While I initially sought beaded crystals for bracelets, the show offered mostly raw or sculpted minerals, like my Malachite and Selenite pieces. Being honest, owning and caring for crystals requires patience and knowledge about their fragility. My Fluorite sphere breaking within a week was a tough moment, but it also reminded me to treat crystals with care and to educate customers about them. Each crystal has unique properties and sensitivities that affect how they should be handled. Another interesting takeaway was how personal connection plays a role. My cousin felt a strong energy from her Malachite, an experience that varies individually and adds magic to the crystal journey. For small business owners or enthusiasts looking to evaluate crystal products or companies, attending different shows is a useful way to discover variety and reliability. Remember to differentiate between mineral shows and jewelry expos, as their offerings can be quite distinct. Ultimately, mine wasn’t the smooth start I imagined, but these early stumbles led to richer insights and deepened my passion for crystals. If you’re considering celebrating milestones with crystals or evaluating companies in the industry, personal experiences like mine prove valuable and worth sharing.
