Need tips to bring my wavy hair to life 😭😭

2024/12/18 Edited to

... Read moreHey everyone! 👋 You know that feeling when your wavy hair just… isn't cooperating? Like it looks completely straight when wet, and then poofs into a frizzy mess when dry? Yeah, I’ve been there! For the longest time, I felt like I was constantly battling my hair, trying to figure out how to get those beautiful, defined waves I always dreamed of. But after a lot of trial and error, I’ve finally landed on a routine that truly brings my long wavy hair to life! If you’re looking for tips to enhance your natural texture, especially if you have long waves or even wavy Asian hair, keep reading! My Step-by-Step Wavy Hair Routine for Definition & Volume It all starts in the shower! I’ve learned that how you wash and treat your hair wet makes all the difference. Gentle Cleansing & Conditioning: I start with a sulfate-free shampoo to avoid stripping my hair’s natural oils. Then, I use a hydrating conditioner, making sure to detangle gently with my fingers or a wide-tooth comb *while the conditioner is still in my hair*. This helps clump my waves together. I rinse most, but not all, of the conditioner out, leaving a little slip. Product Application (Key for Encouraging Waves!): This is where the magic happens! While my hair is still soaking wet (seriously, dripping!), I apply a leave-in conditioner, followed by a curl cream or mousse, and finally a light-hold gel. I use the "praying hands" method to distribute the products evenly, then gently scrunch upwards towards my scalp to encourage curl formation. This also helps with that "straight hair wet" dilemma – the products help the waves form and hold as it dries. Plopping or Micro-Plopping: To remove excess water without disrupting my wave clumps, I either "plop" my hair into a cotton t-shirt or micro-plop by gently scrunching sections with a microfiber towel. This reduces drying time and frizz. Diffusing Long Wavy Hair for Maximum Impact Air drying works, but diffusing is a game-changer for volume and definition, especially for long waves that can get weighed down. It can seem intimidating at first, but with a few simple steps, you'll be a pro! Low Heat, Low Speed: Always use a diffuser attachment on your hairdryer, and set it to low heat and low speed. High heat causes frizz, and high speed can blow your wave patterns apart. Hover Diffusing First: I start by hover diffusing all around my head for about 10-15 minutes without touching my hair. This allows a cast to form and helps dry the roots without disturbing the wave pattern. Pixie Diffusing for Volume: Once my hair is about 50-60% dry, I start "pixie diffusing." Gently scoop sections of your hair into the diffuser bowl, lift it towards your scalp, and hold for about 30 seconds. Release, move to the next section, and repeat. For long hair, you might need to lean your head to the side or upside down to get the roots and mid-lengths effectively. Focus on the roots for extra lift! Dry to 80-90%: I diffuse until my hair is about 80-90% dry. I then let it air dry the rest of the way to minimize heat exposure. Once completely dry, I gently "scrunch out the crunch" by lightly scrunching my hair to break any gel cast, leaving soft, bouncy waves. Caring for Long Wavy Hair: Long wavy hair needs some extra love! To keep my waves healthy and prevent tangles, I sleep on a silk pillowcase or tie my hair up in a loose pineapple bun. Regular trims are also essential to remove split ends and keep your waves looking fresh. And remember, consistency is key! It took me a while to find what works best, but now my waves are thriving. Give these tips a try and let me know how it goes for your beautiful waves!

I love this routine bc it’s so easy and my hair dries fast due to how light the stylers are. The bounce curl hairspray has a great stickiness to help hold clumps and reduce frizz while drying. Once dried and scrunched, my hair feels so soft and bouncy. _____ Washday details (in order): ➰ S
