I didn’t know how to properly use sunscreen!! 😭

I hope this helps someone who is just as confused as I was!! #skincare #sunscreen

The sun is the number 1 thing that ages us! Smoking is the second.

For the girls who wear makeup and are gonna be out in the sun, find a good setting spray that has spf in it so you can reapply periodically. 🤗❤️

... Read moreOkay, so like many of you, I spent years feeling totally lost about how to use sunscreen effectively. I knew it was important, but the 'how-to' felt like a mystery! After a lot of research and trial and error, I've finally put together a routine that makes sense, and I want to share it so you don't make the same mistakes I did. First things first: When do you apply sunscreen in your skincare routine? This was a big one for me! I learned that sunscreen should always be the very last step in your morning skincare routine, right before you apply any makeup. Think of it as creating a protective shield over all your serums and moisturizers. And yes, you absolutely can use sunscreen directly on your face every single day! It's designed for that. Now, how much sunscreen should you use on your face? A common guideline is the 'two-finger rule.' Squeeze a line of sunscreen onto your index and middle fingers, from the base to the tip. That amount is generally sufficient for your face and neck. Don't skimp! Spread it evenly and gently, ensuring full coverage without rubbing too harshly. Give it a few minutes to absorb before moving on to makeup. But here's the kicker: reapplication is just as crucial as the initial application! I used to apply it once in the morning and think I was set for the day – big mistake! Sunscreen wears off, especially with sweat, water, or just general activity. The general rule of thumb is to reapply at least every two hours, or more frequently if you're swimming or sweating heavily. If you wear makeup, this can be tricky, but I've found a few hacks: SPF setting sprays are amazing for a quick mist, or you can gently pat a thin layer of liquid sunscreen over your makeup with a beauty blender. Some people also love SPF powders for touch-ups. Beyond just your face, remember that the sun ages your *entire body*. When you're out and about, always aim to protect all exposed skin. Broad-spectrum SPF 30 (or higher!) is your minimum. Wear protective clothing like hats and sunglasses, and seek shade during peak sun hours (usually 10 AM to 4 PM). These simple steps are vital guidelines to prevent overexposure and premature aging. And what about the little ones? If you're a parent, choosing sunscreen for developing skin is super important. Look for mineral sunscreens (zinc oxide or titanium dioxide) as they create a physical barrier and are often gentler. Always do a patch test first, and be diligent with reapplication, especially when they're playing outdoors. Finally, a common question I get is: Is it advisable to put sunscreen at night? The short answer is no, not at all! Sunscreen protects you from UV rays, which aren't present when the sun goes down. Your skin needs to breathe and repair itself overnight, so stick to your nighttime serums and moisturizers. Save your sunscreen for your morning routine. Making these small adjustments to my routine has made a huge difference in how protected I feel and how my skin looks. Don't be like my old self, confused and under-protected. By understanding when, how much, and how often to apply sunscreen, you'll be well on your way to healthier, happier skin!
